About Me

The folk music of Eddy Burke is currently the best kept secret in town, the musicianship nimble and the vocals caught between the creeping whisper of the Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano and the rapid fire hysterics of Pixies-era Frank Black. In a word the man is mesmerizing. Shout for "Babalula" during Burke's monthly gig at Lee's Liquor Lounge, the last tuesday of the month.
-Metro Magazine, Minneapolis
With a wit that could cut precious stones and fingers that lacerate his own strings, Burke can sing circles around the first color the human eye registers.

Eddy Burke's debut album "last years delightfully mild winter" is the laughter of a broken heart. Both relevant and irreverent, it taps a uniquely raw American vein. From the tender pining of 'dont eat black roses for breakfast' to the giddy-up drive of 'honey so long' it pours out 13 chapters of whiskey into the flask of a wild western saga, poking a folk song until it screams, "Quit it!" The naked production lets the words take the reigns while keeping the whip of his live performance cracking. He throws the doors wide open with the heart of John Prine, the weird of John Cale, the grit of Johnny Cash, and the head of John the Baptist.
