I am an Acupuncture Physician and Registered Herbalist (AHG), and the president and founder of Acupuncture & Herbal Therapies. In my first year of TCM school, I saw a need for holistic approach to healthcare that incorporated not only acute care but also education and lifestyle changes for those patients interested in lifelong wellness. I have studied with local herbalists in the Bahamas, visited with shamans in the Pervian Amazon, attend National conferences for both acupuncturists and professional herbalists, received special training in auricular therapy and dietary therapy as well as completing four years of training in Traditional Chinese Medicine by mostly Ph.D.s from China. My interest in complementary medicine began at the age of 10 at a summer camp in Maine where I had the opportunity to study edible plants in the wild. From that experience, I started reading edible plant books by Euell Gibbons and was also greatly influence by my mother's authoring of various health-related books including The Whole Health Catalog, Dr. Atkins' Superenergy Diet, How to Beat a Bad Back and many others.I have studied various therapeutic properties of vitamins, minerals and western herbs. In high school and college I was nicknamed "Dr. Bob" by classmates because I successfully addressed a wide variety of health concerns for family, and friends using his herbal and nutritional knowledge.I also spent five years in the U.S. Army where and became a combat life saver and earned a combat infantry badge in Iraq. I also was an instructor for the Red Cross in CPR, first aid and advanced life saving, as well as other classes. I have lectured at USF, Eckerd College, Department of Health and taught for East West College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. My strong desire is to raise the standards of herbal training so I created the Professional Herbalists training Program, where I teache and supervise students participating in the herbal intern clinic.
