. . . While in the Whiteman area you will become very familiar with the small town of Knob Noster. This town of approximately 2300 is only two miles away and offers the nearest opportunity for off-base shopping and restaurants. Though it seems small you will be surprised at the variety of merchants located in this town including several nationally known restaurants, gas stations, auto parts stores, banks, and numerous churches. Scattered amongst the well-known businesses are several small establishments ranging from a florist to several computer stores.The Knob Noster School District encompasses four schools; two elementary (including the one on Whiteman), one jr. high, and one sr. high. The District educates approximately 1900 students, many of them military dependants. It is rated 'AAA' by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Students rate well in standardized testing given yearly.             * Knob Noster Elementary School is home to about 450 students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Whiteman Elementary is slightly larger with 600 students. Both have excellent facilities and staff plus many extra curricular programs.  Kindergarteners must be 5 by August 1st to be enrolled. * Knob Noster Middle School serves 400 students from grades 6-8.  The curriculum emphasizes the basics while encouraging extra-curricular activities as well. There are special programs provided for special education, critical thinking, and remedial instruction.* Knob Noster High School has approximately 460 students in grades 9-12.   Students are expected to earn 116 units of credit. A local vocational program allows for study in a variety of career studies. KNHS is located on 25 acres with many sports fields including a lighted football stadium.Knob Noster is a town which enjoys clean living. As an example the water is pumped from deep wells and is untreated. That means no chlorine taste or sulfur smell. How is that for fresh "country" living with many conveniences of a larger town?!Knob Noster City Park is located in the heart of the town. Enjoy the two tennis courts, two baseball diamonds, covered pavilion, picnic tables, and playground equipment spread across eight acres. Each year nearly 500 local children ages 5-18 enjoy the park's baseball and softball leagues. Located on the outskirts of Knob Noster is Knob Noster State Park. Enjoy a walk on the beautiful forest paths or spend a day at one of three small lakes. Facilities for camping are also available and are reasonably priced.
