The Pipettes (Becki, Rose and Gwenno) and their backing band The Cassettes formed at a Brighton beach party last year and have wasted no time since in their stated mission to 'turn back the clock to a time before The Beatles ruined everything.' Their trademark polka dot dresses, doowop anthems and choreographed hand movements have earned them fans across the globe - not least in Finland, where The Pipettes already have an unofficial "Pipette Rescue" fan club! Last year saw The Pipettes complete successful headline tours in the UK and Europe, as well as high-profile support slots with The Magic Numbers, Graham Coxon, British Sea Power and The Go! Team, that has won them fans in high places including Radio One DJ Huw Stephens - "Dirty Mind" scored highly in the first post-Peel Festive Fifty, and Huw has pushed the girls forward as his one and only tip for greatness in 2006. The girls ended last year with a pair of jubilant sold-out London Christmas shows on the same night - at Tapestry and Koko - and they are already gearing themselves up to make 2006 their biggest year yet. They have spent most of January and February recording a debut album with Andy Dragazis (Blue States) and Gareth Parton (The Go! Team) at the desk.
