About Me

This profile was edited with Thomas' Myspace Editor V3
It was the year 1991 when the SQUADRON! first took flight. Back in those days Kiki Rockwell had been rockin' house parties for about 3 years under the name of Kiki The Supreme Lyric Sayer. It wasn't till 91 when Mario aka DJ ReddMann introduced Kiki to Art during a recording session at Art's house. DJ Razzlin' Ralph was laying down a new mix for the radio station. After that session, both Kiki & Art kept in contact and soon there after developed a friendship. It was easy then to put their talents (& equipment) together. That's when Kiki caught a break and was asked to perform at an event titled "Teen Expo" where they could gain local exposure & credibility. On the bill they were introduced as: Kiki The Supreme Lyric Sayer & DJ Art Love.By this time, Kiki recruited the aid of the twin dancers Phaze III as well as our partner in crime Fish. The show was a hit & were asked to participate in the event the following year. This was during a time when Hip-Hop got very little radio play. You could call up POWER 102 and request a jam and they simply would not play it. However we had connections, The Power Mixers. The original cats who would put El Paso Tx. in the mix every weekend. I'm talking about Charles "Cuttin' Up" Chavez, Jammin' Joe Villegas, Juan The Wondrous Rojas, Herman Get Down Gonzalez & DJ Dominate. Guest mixers like DJ Rafa & his brother Fast Jimmy would also help us get a little airplay by sneaking me into the mix. We would do that by recording a mix and in the middle of that mix they would play an instrumental for me to rhyme over. There was this kid by the name of Steve, who was cool w/Art & showed us some recordings him & his friends had done. It was Freestyle music, which I happen to like. I asked if I could have a copy of these tracks, so we dubbed them on to a tape. (I still have those recordings) About a year later, Steve's friend, Tury Q, was in the studio recording one of Steve's songs, "Hands Of Time". It seemed like they needed some "rap vocals" so they thought of me & invited me over to the studio that night. When I got there, along w/Art & Mario, I was handed a sheet of paper that contained the lyrics they wanted me to do. Immediately I felt, I could not record someone else's lyrycs so I asked if I could re-write the lyrics. Mario was sitting at the table w/me as I was doing this task & even collaborated w/one of the lines. I got in the sound both & delivered my first studio recording. One year later, Tury was doing a show at Metropolis Nigh Club in El Paso & invited me to do the song w/him on stage. We would go on to do that song at Teen Expo '92 for the last time.
