"Shared suffering: one guy messes up and everyone runs. One guy does well and everyone benefits."

You are now on a winning team. But you have never played. Therefore you must listen closely to what I have to tell you.. You think that you are disciplined, but you will never know whether or not you are disciplined until you step into a game for the first time. When you hear that first whistle for play to begin, you will know whether or not you are disciplined... Now a lot of people don’t know why we have discipline in our basketball program. They think that discipline is basketball and basketball is discipline, and that’s that. But I’ll tell you why we have discipline in our program. It is because you must play the game through habits. We develop habits through repetition, repetition, repetition. If we mess it up, we do it again and do it right. Your habits must be stronger than the fear of making a mistake or losing.
(One of General Patton's speeches modified for us.)

"Great moments... are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players. Every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it."

"You have to motivate yourself through pride. You must push yourself mentally and physically. A lot of people say John Havlicek never gets tired. Well, I get tired, it's just a matter of pushing myself. I say to myself 'He's as tired as I am, who is going to win the mental battle?"' -- John Havlicek
"The biggest mistake an athlete can make is to be afraid to make one." -- L. Ron Hubbard
"If I had stood at the free-throw line and thought about 10 million people watching me on the other side of the camera lens, I couldn't have made anything. So I mentally tried to put myself in a familiar place. I thought about all those times I shot free throws in practice and went through the same motion, the same technique that I had used thousands of times. You forget about the outcome. You know you are doing the right things. So you relax and perform." -- Michael Jordan
"There are 86,400 seconds in a day. It's up to you to decide what to do with them." -- Jim Valvano
"Winning is about having the whole team on the same page" -- Bill Walton
"You'll always have everything in life that you want if you help enough people get what they want." -- Zig Ziglar
"He who makes no mistakes makes no progress." -- Theodore Roosevelt
"The happiest people are those who have harvested their time in others. The unhappiest people are those who wonder how the world is going to make them happy." -- John C. Maxwell
