Where to start? Mansfield Park is my favourite but I love all Jane Austen and some of the other classics, particularly Thomas Hardy. Modern classics are great too, particularly E.M. Forster, Evelyn Waugh, Muriel Spark and David Lodge. Historical novels/biographies about the Tudors and Stuarts, particularly by Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir. 'Chick lit' is great too, especially Joanna Trollope.
