The mixtures, which were originally confined to magnetic tapes, were once quite popular among listeners of Hip Hop music. But when the flood of new mixtapes didnt ebb away for a long time, the market became more and more complex. Moreover, the music the DJs selected for their mixtapes became more and more similar. An Underground tape here, a Hip Hop Classics tape there. And they all used the same sources: The Internet and retail sellers.In the meantime, the development in the mother country of Hip Hop advanced. A mixtape became more than a more or less skillful compilation of various titles. The US DJs began putting more emphasis on intensive collaboration with the artists. Exclusives by means of freestyles are the keywords. The DJs increase the value of their mixtapes, which have been more often released on CD than on tape since, with exclusive freestyles over popular and not so popular beats. That way, the artist can promote himself and his music, while the DJ can capitalize on the exclusive contribution of a popular artist. It goes without saying that all participants are mainly concerned with the promotional aspect. The listener, on the other hand, gets more than a mixtape.
This game can be played in Germany, as well. And when doing so, one doesnt even have to set aside international flavour. Or so they prove with May The Beats Be With You, Episode 1, the first mixtape on CD, mind you, from the new series Mixtape Mind Tricks, powered by Sleepys World. Episode 1 contains a total of 34 titles, 17 of which are exclusives. One managed to get the US MCs Ali Vegas, Ike Dirty, BangEm Smurf & Domination, Imam Thug and Billy Bathgate on the microphone, each of whom can be heard over beats made by Sleepys Worlds production camp. The fact that Phrequency, X-Ray, and Sleepwalker make beats on international level has been well-known for a long time. But the listener will be amazed at how genuine the US MCs sound over their beats. Aside from the freestyles, which are more pre-written verses than off the top rhymes, May The Beats Be With You, Episode 1 also contains five exclusive tracks by US MC J.Bully, who has been a part of Sleepys World for long. In the end, the songs were mixed by Hamburgs top club DJ Ben Kenobi, in order that the good old mixtape flavor was added despite the exclusive tracks. The mixtape was hosted by AJ and executive produced by certified Gold producer Sleepwalker and Jan Kluth, who also established contact to the US MCs.The second part is in the works already.
