FREENESS

About Me

Freeness is about creative people and the sounds they make. It's the brain child of visual artist Chris Ofili and Icebox, developed with partners CDR and Blacktronica. Knowing that creative genius often lives and dies in bedrooms, headrooms and other self-contained spaces we put out a call for new music.
Freeness aimed to platform Black, Asian and minority artists in particular. We're inspired by great tunes, great artists, forward-thinking DJ sets and the innovative clubs and events we all love and by the idea that there's so much more to hear.
Last year Freeness sessions were held in 10 cities in England. We invited producers and musical innovators to bring their ideas, tracks, remixes and edits to be aired in an intimate space among peers and likeminded individuals. Freeness sought out the sounds being created outside the mainstream and beyond the confines of the commercial music industry.
We aim to be a platform for those artists making their own way forward. Open to anything, we had no idea what to expect. The respose was amazing and we brought you a taster of the talent, ideas and creativity that came our way on Freeness Vol. 1.
To all the musicians who chose Freeness, Thank you! This is just the beginning.
If you have any music that you think we may want to hear or are involved with a project you think we may want to know about, give us a shout...
