About Me

Nine months ago I quit my job of 8 1/2 years to train and coach full-time with Team Quest Fight Club in Gresham, Or. As you can imagine, it's been a hell of a ride so far. Punching people in the face, getting punched in the face, teaching others how to punch someone in the face, teaching kids how to punch someone the face (only at the gym though, I try to be a good role model). It's been an awesome experience so far, and I'm lucky to be a part of such a world-class gym. If you're an MMA fan, I have the dream job. My wife Christine has been a unbelievable support system through all of this, and I figure she will continue to be for quite a while. I've met and trained with some extraordinary people at Team Quest, which is an experience in itself. If you asked me two years ago if I saw myself coaching and fighting out of Team Quest, I would have said two words, "hell and no."

My Interests

Spending time with my wife, seeing my kid Jacob when he comes out to stay with me, playing bass guitar traveling to JAPAN, outdoor activities, spending time with friends I love and love me for who I am, coaching martial arts to those who want to learn, giving all the fighters at Team Quest the support they need, and fighting in MMA like it is the last thing I'm going to do on this Earth. :)

I'd like to meet:

Professor Stephen Hawking, Stan Lee, George Lucas, Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, the man who invented the Leatherman Tool, Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, and the Enlightened One himself; the Amida Buddha

Music:

Pretty much any artist who has left their mark in the music industry. Can't stand the "cookie cutter" bands that corporate America is churning out lately.

Movies:

An Inconvenient Truth, 40-year old Virgin, Spiderman, Star Wars IV-VI, Seven, Glory, Blood Diamond, Ong Bak, Super-Size Me, Tears of the Sun, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, High Fidelity, Shawshank Redemption, Nacho Libre, Conan the Barbarian, the original Alien.

Heroes:

my parents for putting up with me and teaching how to be a good person. My wife for believing in me. Josh "Bring the Pain" Haynes for being such a good friend and the toughest S.O.B. I've been around (I've been around a few). Robert Follis for seeing in me a talent for coaching that I never knew was there, and giving me the opportunity to show it. Mike "Skull-crackin" Dolce for being a friend and walking me through my first weight-cut. Matt "the Law" Lindland for his unbelieveable work ethic in and out of the gym. Chris "the Professor" Wilson for helping me prepare for my fights, and giving me the honest feedback I need. Nate "Rock" Quarry for motivating me to take a chance and see what might happen if I give up my job to pursue a career as an MMA athlete.
