I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

This is the section where I brag about myself, right? Where I tell you what a fascinating and interesting person I am and how you simply haven't experienced life unless you've had a conversation with me, or shared a beer with me, or slept with me? OK, great. But, if I understand you correctly, I'm not supposed to make it obvious. In other words, I don't actually TALK about how great I am; instead I simply make my life seem like this whirlwind cavalcade of adventure, excitement, and romance. Hmmmm.
Okay, my name is Alex, although I have held more nicknames than you could shake a stick at, such as "Arm," "Lexi," "Nostradamus," or even "Lex Luthor." As you can imagine from those nicknames, I am a pretty easy-going guy, and it is hard - almost impossible - to make me get angry. My sense of humor is my biggest strength and my biggest weakness. I can be talked into doing almost anything if it would be funny. Swap the football team's shampoo with Nair? Why not? Blow up the pay toilet? Sure, it's only a misdemeanor if nobody gets hurt. This is how my sense of humor can be a weakness. On the other hand, I'm definitely fun to be around, and I stimulate people to grow creatively. And let's face it, you simply haven't experienced life until we've had a deep and meaningful conversation while having sex in a huge tub of beer.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Have you ever been in a conversation with somebody, and they start telling you a long story about something that happened to them, and you keep thinking to yourself "Get to the punchline already"? And then they finish their story... and there's no punchline! They've just wasted ten minutes of your life for nothing! Do you experience a crushing sense of disappointment when that happens? Of course you do - we've all been there. But do you then tell them that their story doesn't work because they "haven't convinced the audience to care about the narrator?" Do you explain how the story could be changed to make it more entertaining, and then attempt to bill them for your consultation services? I want to meet the kind of person who might try something like that. Funny people who take risks.

When it comes to morality, I like to remember the lesson of Jesus, who said "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  The lesson, of course, is that people who are too optimistic about hum...

Aquarius, Monday, 20 April 2009 Life is like an obstacle course. We are not, though, obliged to jump over all hurdles. We have the option to size up an obstruction or a barrier and decide that it is t...

Artistic License

One of the things I both like and dislike about improv is the way new stories are formed almost effortlessly.  Today I did some skits in "Pan Left/Pan Right" that I really enjoyed, mostly because in a...

Safety Gifts

I'm not a control freak, but I occasionally get mistaken for one due to my penchant for overpreparation.  The way I see it, if you know that something has a high likelihood of occurring, and it d...

The Bailout Plan Explained

Lately it seems that a lot of people are upset about the $700 billion dollar Wall Street bailout that was recently proposed by Congress.  I don't see what all the fuss is.  Surely if we all ...

A PSA on Aging

Simon Says

"No more Bush," the people chant, "it's time for a change.  Sarah Palin!" It's kind of funny how Jesus makes people stupid.  In the business world, most of these people would never even drea...

Finding Your Voice

To do a French accent, it is important to convert the "th" sound into "z".  For example, "that" becomes "zat," "thank you" becomes "zank you", etc.  The second important thing to remember is...

Natures Joke

I used to laugh at chinchillas and call them "nature's joke", not through any fault of their own, but simply because of their natural defense mechanism, which is to die.  That's right, their defe...
