My Interests

Filling out lists of interests for complete strangers to read. Oh, GREAT! This totally qualifies.

I'd like to meet:

My little brother and sister 10 years ago (again) because there are clearly some important pieces of information that I neglected to emphasize. For example: I might explain to my 7 year old sister of days past that 'Niggas' is not the preferable synonym for 'boys'. That way she might not have chosen to use it (I can dream) in her the Myspace headline of today. My little brother and sister 10 years from now so I can see if there is anything else I should be telling them today.

Music:

Rheostatics, Stellastarr, Neko Case, Loretta Lynn...look this is not fair. Lists and lists. Oh Poo. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- .-.-.-.-.My favorite song in the whole world is "Rock-a-my-Soul" when my mom sings it. My second favorite song in the whole world is the medley that my little sister used to sing when she was about 8 or 9. It was a mix of "Me and Bobby McGee" (ala Joplin) and a song about whales called "Love song for A37" (ala me).It went like this: "I spend my time, me and Bobby McGee-hee, sitting on roof tops, watching the whales go, rolling by. I spend my time, me and Bobby McGee-hee, busted flat in Baton Rouge, watching the whales go rolling by. And it's so far away, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-haaaa, Me and BOBBY MCGEEEEEEEE-HEEEEEEEEEEE!"Oh yeah, also anything featuring the musical saw.

Movies:

Lillies of the Field, The Sure Thing, Ghost Dog, George Washington, Motorcycle Diaries, Danny Deckchair, Charade

Television:

yes but Netflix more

Books:

Honestly, mostly I read scientific journal articles, young adult fiction and muder mysteries. The rest of you, with your Nabokovs and Tolstoys, your Atwoods and Ryands...the occasional Sedaris thrown in to show that you have a lighter side too...oh sure, we've read some books. What have you read LATELY?

Heroes:

Sure. Real people are my heroes. Not fictional characters. It's easy to be perfect when someone writes you that way.

My Blog

In my perfect world you always know to cut the red wire first.

Yesterday I started to write a new blog entry.  It started like this: Well, it's been ages since my last entry but I haven't had any misdemeanors to report. It's like I willed it to happen. &nbs...

I miss you honey and I can't wait to hear the news of your most recent incident report

I haven't really talked to my best friend since her birthday in early October. We had a falling out in August and recovery has been slow at best.  This is a woman with whom I can have a four hour...

Since when do you have a crack baby?

Last week I went to Nashville for a conference.  I gave my first talk at a national meeting.  I did not burp into the microphone so by my standards it was a roaring success.  There are ...

B'ham you are on your way to being the strangest place I've ever been to (and I've been places)

I swear that Birmingham is not the strangest place I've ever been to.  The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD is stranger.  But Birmingham might be the strangest place I've ever lived in.  I d...

Seattle homey-home-home-home

So last week I snuck home.  Snuck? Sneaked? Snooked? I think it's sneaked. Whatever, I went home and I only told five people in Seattle.  Mom, Alli, my little brother and sister an...

In the days of the underground railroad, 7-layer dip only had one layer...bean (dedicated to P)

Okay, so another story from the reunion: I had one cousin who showed up to the family registration drunk, and wearing an oversized white-tee.  When I say 'oversized white-tee' I mean th...
