Hey hey! We are HELD and we are on a mission: to play metal like it should sound in 2008! Should sound? Yes! We oppose to the direction that metal has taken halfway through the 90s. We offer an alternative by combining metal's great traditions with a modern sound. In other words: metal with variations, with solos, with clever lyrics... And most important: with a lot of positive energy! No bullshit!
HELD uses the traditional line-up of guitars-drums-bass and vocals. With roots in the early thrash and death metal, HELD sounds identifiable, yet never conventional. HELD is anything but retro. Tight, fast and furious we are. Yet also rhythmic and compact. Moreover, we make Songs, with a beginning and an end. Our very own songs, plus 1 or 2 covers when we play live!
The history so far: Summer 2005, Tom and Dennis (both ex- Phlebotomized ) wanted a bit of fun and played some old school speed metal in Tom's shed. After a couple of beers, things got exciting and soon Dennis had a sore throat and Tom's arms and fingers were hanging loose. They both knew: This feels great! We want more! Hell yeah!!
So, Tom went on and wrote songs all summer. Tom asked Jeffrey to record these new songs with drums so we could use that as a demo. Now, Jeffrey plays in soul and jazz groups, but recorded these songs like he was playing metal for years. The metal virus really got to him, and he wanted to join the band. S-s-sure, let's ROCK!
By the end of 2005 we started rehearsing. And in February 2006, we already played our first show: no bass player yet, 8 songs only, but we rocked people's socks off! June 2006 we found Roeland, our bass player, which we knew from the old days when he was with Obtruncation .
We are now completing our live set: rehearsing the songs (20!) and adding some kick-ass covers (Slayer, Nuclear Assault, Death, Faith No More, Autopsy). Check the calender! Our first show was 25 November 2006 in De Bastille. What will be next? We are recording a demo! And then we hope to perform a lot more!!!
