Helen Tartes is no stranger to performing in front of live audiences. Her dynamic and powerful vocals have been shaped by her admiration of legendary entertainers of many musical genres. She is very relaxed on stage. Her confidence and ease behind the microphone are a result of honing her skills at an early age.
A native of Estonia, Helen had a natural affinity for music. In her youth, her parents would often find her singing along with Barbara Streisand records. At seven years old, they entered her in a children's talent contest and that was the beginning of her passion for entertaining. She performed all over Estonia and sang on Estonian National Television shows.
In 1993 she started to take professional voice-setting lessons, in order to prepare herself for the singing contest on Estonian National Television. Through years of 1993, 1995, 1999 she took part in that contest and won the first place in regional pre-contests in order to get to the show. She was chosen to this contest among over 100 contestants.
Helen has toured the Europe from Finland to Holland performing as a soloist. She has performed many times at public ceremonies, concerts, parties, fashion shows, and balls and been an evening master in many events.
In 1998 she started to study music more deeply in Tallinn Pedagogical Seminar. In 2001 she defended her thesis about music therapy. In addition to being a charismatic performer, Helen is continuously striving to further develop herself as an artist. Her dream is to pursue a career in voice performance and to get the best professional education in this field; she enrolled in Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. in Fall 2001. In March 2001 she applied for the Berklee BEST Talent Scholarship and was rewarded with a partial scholarship.
In additional to Helen's formal education she has studied classical voice setting for 8 years under instruction of Leelo Talvik, who is a professional opera singer in Estonia.
In September 2003 Helen entered Audentes University, the biggest private university in Estonia. This time she chose counseling psychology magistrates in applied psychology sciences. This subject always interested her. At the same time she practices new skills in kindergarten as a therapeutist, preparing children with special needs for school. She also founded her own children vocal performing studio, where works as teacher.
Helen has experience of working on the radio; she had her own nationwide radio shows on TOP radio and B3 concerned with current affairs, show business news and talk shows.
Helen cites a wide range of artists as major musical influences from Barbara Streisand, LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Lynn Anderson, Lana Lane and Sheryl Crow.
