Nick Hugo was born a songwriter. From the instant he let out his first scream upon entering this world, Hugo has had a knack in manipulating the sounds surrounding him. With simple chord progressions, elaborate finger-picking, and powerful lyrics, Hugo manipulates sound as we know it into something more beautiful.
Hugo dove into the musical world headfirst, as he was born into a very musical family. Constantly surrounded by the rapid flurry of notes exploding from his grandfather's accordion, he was inspired to take up piano at a very young age. This eventually led to Hugo's desire to take up the guitar at age twelve. After mastering a couple chords, Hugo began to start writing his own songs, intrigued by his apparent knack for the craft.
After recording dozens of songs on a low quality computer program, Nick made his live debut at a local festival hosted by his high-school. Hugo was well received by many as a talent not found often in such a young age group.
Hugo doesn't fall short as a lyricist. He brandishes the skills of a well-versed poet, crafting descriptive imagery that seems almost tangible at times. Often compared to Elliott Smith, he writes with the melancholic tones and finely crafted hooks that defined the sound of albums like "Elliott Smith" and "Roman Candle."
Hugo is currently in the process of recording the "Missing a Few Rungs" e.p. (release date tba) He hopes to begin recording a full-length during early 2009.
