Melba Toast, the self-proclaimed Ambassadress of White Trash Culture, believes in spreading the beauty, joy and wonder (and humor) of her culture wherever she goes. Country Music Hall Of Fame Member Cliffie Stone dubbed her "The Toast of Country Music." Ms. Toast is renowned as a singer/songwriter/comedian/MC/actress/radio personality and promoter.Melba's TV appearances include "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", "The Jon Stewart Show", "The Extreme Gong Show," The Late Mr. Pete Show", "The Count Smokula Show", "The Bat Poet Show", as well as various news programs and cable access shows in Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN. Melba's film credits include "Bug Buster" (starring Randy Quaid), "Dear Mr. Cash", "Lucy's Dream", "My Next Funeral" and "The Avenging Angel". Melba also appeared in Country Music Video Magazines (Vols. 1, 2, 3 & 4).Melba co-hosted the popular early Saturday morning radio show "Country Sunrise" on KCSN 98.9FM with Tom Willett and Mark Thornton and was a central figure in Los Angeles' local roots music scene from 1990-2000, performing with her 6-piece band, "Melba Toast & her Nutty Buddies." Ms. Toast also created and hosted the well-received bi-monthly showcase for female artists called "Girl's Night Out!" and hosted the "Sunset Junction Street Fair" in Hollywood, CA and "The Long Beach 4th Street Fair" in Long Beach, CA for 7 years. Ms. Toast has also appeared in the music videos of Dwight Yoakam, Wylie & the Wild West, Cletus T. Judd, The Ramones and The Cramps. Named CCMA's 1991 Horizon Artist and nominated for Vocalist of the year in 1995, Melba was pre-nominated for six Grammy Awards in 1995. Ms. Toast also had the distinction of performing as the featured vocalist with the Victor Valley College Symphony Orchestra in 1997.Born in Wichita Falls, TX, Melba grew up in Texas, Oklahoma, Germany, Georgia and Yuba City, California. Ms. Toast attended Georgia State University, where she majored in Graphic Design. Melba also pursued careers in fine art and performance art in Atlanta, GA. She moved to Los Angeles in 1985, and then to Nashville, TN, where she now resides with her husband, Mr. Toast.Melba also performs with her bands "Melba Toast & her Tomato Pickers" and "Christmas Tree-O", performs in various films, music videos and commercials, and has been a regular (along with Mr. Toast) on "The Bat Poet Show" since 2001, a television show that has been airing on local Public Access TV from February 1995 every Friday and Saturday night from 10:30-11pm.Melba produced a series of children's programs for schools and libraries as well as various other children's venues that she performed during 2007-2008. To date, programs include "Cowgirl Melba" and "Miss Solar System". Melba is currently developing creating a television pilot for a children's program based on her library shows.
