The doctor Moreau bought himself an island to verify whether people were actually animals. It turned out chemistry, physics and biology all pointed to the same result. There's nothing that differentiate men from other animals except their habilities to forget it. When he faced it, all these neohippish trends about love turned to be excuses for chromosomic spread, seeds of need. Maybe only music could be abstract enough to make him forget that no island could be far enough from humanity, that he couldn't just run from him needs.
