MELLISIA
New York based up and coming soca artist Mellisia James is a 26-year-old Trinidadian born native. In accordance with her family tree, she has performing in her blood. Her grandfather, the late Clem Bellerand was a founding member and captain of the internationally touring pan troupe Boys Town. It is no wonder then that Mellisia, who was close to her grandfather, was taught to play pan at the age of six (although she now regretfully admits she has since forgotten how). Mr. Bellerand was both a singer and actor who performed with Pt. Cumana in the nationwide Best Village competition. Mellisia fondly remembers going to numerous practice sessions and secretly imitating the dance steps and songs on the sidelines. At the age of nine, Mellisia placed 1st in her primary school calypso competition with a song written by her grandfather. After migrating to the US, Mellisia who lived in rural Kentucky at the time introduced her fellow 7th graders to soca and the art of wining. She then moved to New York City and attended Boys and Girls High School where she was a member of the choir. Her extra-curricular activities included choreographing dance routines for children ages five to fourteen. Mellisia also had the honor of performing with the legendary Caribbean dancer, the late Ms. Cheryl Byron.Though now pursuing her MBA in accounting under full scholarship at Long Island Universitys Brooklyn campus, she has now decided to join the soca fraternity. Her first track into the soca arena Lose Control was written by Mark Holder a.k.a Nferno and produced by the acclaimed Shawn Ma$tamind Noel, Mel Follows up with a wicked track entitled "Chinee Food" a extremely entertaining track written by none other than Mel herself with musical composition by Shawn Ma$tamind Noel, and with all those flexible dance moves she has everyone wanting Chinee Food.It seems that the apple does not fall far from the tree after all. Her grandfather is probably looking down at her saying thats my girl. Mellisias strong sense of pride in her culture was nurtured and instilled early in her life. It is refreshing to see that you can take the girl out of Trini, but you cant take Trini out of the girl.I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!
