John Cecil Price

About Me

Philly based Guitarist/Provocateur, Journalist, Anarchist & Street Musician,John Cecil Price, formerly of Legendary Noise, Dark-Ambient, Space-Rock bands, AKASH & Temple of Bon Matin, went SOLO with the release of his debut CD: "UBWENGE", in May, 2003.Also look for other JCP releases, "THEOSOPHY", released in August, 2003 and "THE BLACK AND BLUE AMERICAN" released in 2005 (A compliation of JCP's 1st 2 Solo Albums and bonus tracks spanning Akash outtakes and more).John also leads an avant garde, Prog-Space-Jam Band, called, "The Crime" & occaisionally fronts shows with his Free-Jazz Hurricane of a group simply dubbed, "The John Price Trio". Since 2006, John can be seen & heard exploring infectious pop/punk/surf & R&B done with a hard rock twist in "Baptist Preachers".Throughout John's solo work, he's always featured some of Philly Music's finest living-musical giants such as Elliott Levin on Tenor & Soprano Saxes, Flute & Spoken Word along with Charles DuQuesne on drums & percussion. At present, John is also an in demand session musician playing guitar for top International R&B, Pop & New-Wave/Alternative recording sessions.ObZine Magazine Raves: "EITHER HE (JOHN PRICE-MASTERMIND BEHIND AKASH) IS A GENIOUS OR HAUNTED BY DARK SOUNDS AND VISIONS OF BOTH EROTIC AND NUEROTIC EXTREMES - WITH NO END IN SIGHT: Thank God for that any way you slice it" ObZine MagazineJohn Cecil Price, Born Oct 24th, 1969, in Dover, DE - USA, is Prolific Producer and Multi-Instrumentalist-Songwriter/Storyteller who is best described as a being, "The Black Robert Fripp, Sonny Sharock, Bill Laswell & Hugh Heffner, all in one MEGA-Large framed package".John Cecil Price has been involved in making some of the most delicious electro-acoustic music to ever come out of Philadelpia, beginning way back in the summer of 1989.His music has been featured by The Canadian Broadcast Corporation, The BBC, Feature Films and numerous Erotic Videos.John's unique style of instrumental & deeply moving storytelling deliberately crosses multiple musical genres and has consistently brought together some of the finest improvising musicians in the world with tremendous results. Elliott Levin ( Cecil Taylor, Teddy Pendergrass, Gong & Bill Laswell ); G. Calvin Weston ( Ornette Coleman & James Blood Ulmer ); Ed Wilcox ( Temple of Bon Matin, Arthur Doyle & Akash ); Charles Dusquesne ( Dee-Lite, God Lives Underwater, Sugarsmack Daddy, For & Phil Moore Browne ).Prior to his going solo, John Cecil Price was in bands such as Temple of Bon Matin, 929 Blessings, Psychohead and White Girl (which featured Kate Krusader and Charles Dusquesne).John Cecil Price brings a high Level of Technical & Melodic texture to his music which is both incisive, challenging and deeply personal while also placing him in the realm of the most forward thinking and avant garde Philadelphia Based Musicians. The Legendary AKASH, self described as being "The world's most erotic band", certainly walked a number of simultaneous musical lines from art-rock, to techno, to global music, to performance art & spoken word-theatrics, while John Cecil Price was typically the "spaced out ink", through which the lines were drawn and moreover the scale that kept a balance of musical symmetry and precision.John Cecil Price remains an anti-war, Queer Aligned, Progressive-Left Leaning and an outspoken advocate/activist for free speech, sexual freedom and women's reproductive rights."REMEMBER TO ALWAYS KILL YOUR EXPECTATIONS"
