Tired of faux emo? Gloomy retros got you down? A Block of Yellow are here to help with all the Hip Pop that is necessary for a good and happy life. That distinctive ABOY sound created under the influence of influential sounds like the Kinks, the Supremes, and the Stone Roses can certainly work wonders. The Clash, Fela Kuti, and yes even the Quarrymen provide the additional touchstones the ABOY boys touch on to place their sound squarely where it needs to be.A Block of Yellow began when the dual dueling Vox & Guitar boys, Alex Whalley and Anthony Nastasi, wanted to get their crafty song-craft beat-powered and basified in truly beautiful fashion. Recruitment of Dan Tomas on bass line creating bass and Paul Everest on beat creating drums followed and rounded out the quartet (and created that special sound that ABOY fans crave today). Shows in their home base London, Ontario and further environs followed.Pure unadulterated Hip Pop is what A Block of Yellow have always provided (with appropriate due care). And the tradition continues my friends with the new Grow Up or Grow Out EP recorded by Will Haas at Willyboy Recordings. These four songs are specifically designed to hit your hipster ears right where it counts, from the uplifting calypso of Just, Just Remember to the moderately downtrodden For One Afternoon these songs work wonders in the hit department. Yes, with Grow Up or Grow Out the ABOY boys have well and truly done it again. Lovely dovely!
