maker of things
In my free time, you can usually find me in my dungeon throwing pots, sculpting strange objects out of clay and mixed media, painting small abstracts, or conjuring up some other project. I find all of
my inspiration at random moments in my life: a rotten orange on the sidewalk, a friend's ridiculous story, looking out the window while flying, or even a bum screaming, "faggot!" at me as I stroll down the street eating a sandwich. I never really know when the inspiration is going to hit, but it hits frequently. When dining in a restaurant that so graciously provides a sheet of paper larger than the table (and a jar of crayons!)... I'm that person who, by the end of the evening, has completely covered the table with doodles. And If I'm lucky, I'll find a branch on the street and bring it home because I think I can "use it" for something. Yes, you can say I'm one of those 'creative types.' From 2003 to 2005, I co-created TIMBREspace with a dear friend. For most of the space's first year, we renovated the old billiards hall of the Jensen's Recreational Building in Echo Park, CA. Stripping glue off the floors, then sanding and varnishing, building walls, and installing lighting. The remainder of our time in the space was used as a non-profit art and music space where all door donations went directly to the artist. The best moment was the first night I sat on the floor before our first run of bands and felt the energy of a space that I helped fantasize and birth and to see the faces of all those enjoying the music. The next best moment was when a girl was dancing the funky chikin' er sumptin and her leg fell right through the floor. Hilarious. She was fine. Kept right on dancin'.
art director/ set designer / graphic designer
In 2002, I began working for Tribe Inc. . a design team that specializes in live event productions. As an art director, my function is to design storyboards and small/large scale graphics through photoshop, design unique set pieces and environments, build models, and oversee the build and installation. A few of the projects I've been fortunate to work on are: Lollapalooza, 2003; Tiesto in Concert, 2005; People's Choice Awards, 2005-2007; Rascal Flatts Tour, Mötley Crüe 'Route of all Evil' US Tour, 2007; Video Game Awards 2006-2007; and the Super Bowl XLI Half Time show starring Prince.
