Germán Ormaechea born and raised in Pamplona, Spain started Horthy, a techno, electro band in August 2000 as a concept that focused on experimental music and multimedia events. He started the Horthy project as a solo artist who played electric bass guitar. At the time Ormaechea was also an active member of the well known band Grey Souls also located in Pamplona. He recorded his first CD with Grey Souls and is now on his second CD release with Horthy. The second Horthy CD is titled Horthy ..2 (Horthy released Horthy ..1 their debut CD in 2003 04). Ormaechea is also a recognized DJ, DJ Moderno in Spain. He normally plays out at Horthys concerts with his mixes. He spins electro/electro pop. For the past three years as DJ Moderno he has DJed at the main POP clubs in Spain.
Ormaecheas love of music prompted him to get started as a musician. When he was younger he was always buying CDs and vinyl. He has been involved with music for 12 years now. Ormaechea has never been able to live independently only from the success of his music but it is his best hobby. He spends lots of time working on music and hanging out with his girlfriend.
Horthy soon evolved into a solid and active band. Horthy band members are as follows: Aitor Berraondo Dexter Ward (Oberheim OB12, synthesizer, percussions, electronic drums), Germán Ormaechea Horthy (Roland MC 505, bass guitar, vocals, lab-top), Enrique Galdeano Merak19 (Oud, darbuka, electric guitar, violin, percussions) and Carlos Hidalgo No Disk (Korg Triton). All the band members compose and perform on all of the songs.
Horthy recorded its first project at De Lucas studios in San Sebastián, Spain and their second project at Horthy Productions located in Pamplona, Spain.
The first CD was publisedh by Do It Records and distributed by K-Industria Musical. Their second CD was autoedited with the help of Bassmint Music Inc. (an online record label (i-label) and Caldella Music/ ASCAP music publishing company based in the United States of America).
Horthy has now finished their interim project called "Horthy vs Kraftwerk" where the band has recorded 8 covers of Krafwerk's songs. This is already available at www.soundclick.com/horthyvskraftwerk
The band is planing to finish their third official project "Horthy3" by the end of 2007. Horthy is planning to compose and record this third project completely in Spanish language.
Experimenting with different sounds is the base for this musical experience. Oscillating between melodic pop and the most modern electronic sounds full of details and suggestive ideas. Horthy plays regularly in the most popular clubs in Spain and includes VJing with slides, video projections, spectacular light shows and modern dancers in their performances and concerts. They do not consider themselves a commercial band but they are looking to sell lots of CD's in the alternative/indie-tronic/electro-pop industry.
Like all other bands, their goal is to sell lots of CD's, perform and have brilliant musical reviews appear in lots of interviews and try to make appearances on TV shows in Europe and North America. Horthy wants to to be known as an electro/ electro pop cult-classic band and become a legend in the electro-pop music scene in Spain and one day be recognized as such globally.
