recorded in her living room in the summer of 2006, mackenzie grant’s latest album, the laundry room glamour hour, is a scaled-down, home-grown, delicious treat for the ears.
“i wanted to take it back to square-one with this thing,†said mackenzie regarding the minimalist approach to the album. “i had gotten away from what was real to me musically, and it almost killed me.†so she called up friend and nashville drummer, jason hoffheins, to set about a new, fresh direction. “jason has been a nashville music scene staple for years now, and there’s really nothing he can’t do. he mentioned he was looking to produce someone, and i basically jumped on his coattails from there. i told him precisely what i wanted to do with the record, and he was down with it 100%. i knew we were golden when he took a rough vocal/piano of one of the songs, added all his own instrumentation to it, and came back to me a couple days later with exactly the sound i was looking for.â€
from there, mackenzie and jason co-produced a lean, mean, fightin’ machine of a record. with it’s sturdy, well-crafted songwriting, and sonically gorgeous arrangements and production, it is a work that speaks for itself. “that’s all i wanted, really, was something that represented what was real to me. like having that indescribable thought in your mind, suddenly articulated just as you imagined it.â€
mackenzie currently resides in nashville, tennessee, with her husband, son and dog, ray-ray.
press for mackenzie...
"MacKenzie Grant is a breath of fresh air on the folk scene (can we put her there?) because she plays -- the piano, and produces some absolutely gorgeous sounds in the process...More than a piano player, MacKenzie (can we call you Mac? it's so much easier...) is an artist, citing influences of none other than Bruce Hornsby, Randy Newman and singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke -- and you can hear them all...It all just sorta leaves one wondering: what else can this young woman do? What's next? (Hopefully, a very long, beautiful piano solo.....)"
