The Velveteria is a one of a kind museum of velvet painting located in scenic Portland, Oregon. We have a unique collection of over 200 velvet paintings collected all over the world and drawn from our personal collection of over 1200 chefs-d'oeuvres. In addition to having been written about in every local print news publication and providing the backdrop for the Shins' photo-spread in Rolling Stone magazine, we have also been featured on KATU news, the Home and Garden Network, Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" show, a smattering of international travel shows, and even "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." The Velveteria is located at 2448 E. Burnside Ave. (24th & E. Burnside) in Portland, Oregon, and admission is a measly $5 - a pittance for all the wonders that await you there. Stop on by and don't forget to check out the T-shirts, thongs, hot dog earrings and other mind-bending oddities for sale in our gift shop!
Also, we are proud to announce that our new book, Black Velvet Masterpieces: Highlights from the Collection of the Velveteria Museum, will be released by San Francisco's very own ultra-hip Chronicle Books imprint in April. Check out their web page on it here and be sure to be the first on your block to pre-order it as soon as it's available. Once it climbs to the top of the best seller lists, you can be sure that the presidential hopefuls will be falling over each other doing photo-ops with Carl and Caren, trying to win that elusive "Filipino-hill-tribe-woman-with-a-stogie" vote! You can contact us at [email protected]
PS. The photos on this site are just a smattering of the greatness that awaits you at the Velveteria! We don't dare publish photos of, say, "Unicorn Combover" or "Sammy Davis Jesus" because their jaw-dropping magnificence would overload the internet and probably destroy it! You need to come check this stuff out in person!
NEWSFLASH: Check out the Oregonian's great feature on the Velveteria here and check out a great video feature of us here !! More TV appearance footage coming soon!
