Young ShawnBorn in Bronx, New York, and raised in the soulful streets of Harlem, Shawn started humming and singing tunes at the age of five. Growing up, he admired many great singers, groups and bands including Soul 4 Real, Jackson 5, The Temptations, Brian McKnight, Smokie Robinson, and the highest selling female group of all-time, Destinys Child. Shawn is the second youngest of four children to parents, Dena Waiters and George Smith. With praise from his loving family and constant encouragement, Shawn knew, at a very young age what he wanted to do. Sing. Shawns education at Roberto Clemente Performing Arts Junior High School, and Manhattan Center where he graduated, proved to be great vehicles for his promising future as a singer. At the age of 11 years old, he performed for the first time at a local church talent show and was rewarded first place. Success did not stop there, at the age of 12; he was featured on television in a Philip Morris commercial, promoting non-smoking which aired for 3 years. In 2000, Shawn had the opportunity to perform for Showtime at the Apollo with a dance group. Even though dancing was not his goal, he realized that performing on stage in front of a large live audience, would help him overcome stage fright. Within this year, he formed a small singing group called 4 Pleasure and sang in many regions of Harlem. From 2001 to 2003, Shawn got countless opportunities to allow his vocal ability to be heard. Shawn became recognized for singing at the Soul CafÃ©, Harriet Tubman Street Festival, Harlem Week, the All-Star Show winning 2nd place, and later was offered a record deal by Ban Entertainment. By the summer of 2004, Shawn wrote and co-wrote over 20 songs. Yes, not only does he love to sing, he loves to write as well. In 2005, Shawn sang for one of his idols, Destinys Child. After serenading, he was given a verbal signature with a smile, that he was a great singer. Shawns dream was becoming reality and his talent, determination and drive was greatly respected by his peers. Shawns gift of singing and writing is not just a job to him, but a love and a way to enjoy life. In the next 5 years, he plans to become an R&B recording artist. His goal is to speak through his music and help change lives.
