About Me

THE STORY
“Mom, when I grow up I’m going to sing about Jesus to the whole world.” Uttering these words at the tender age of four, Osato had already found his calling. Born to two Nigerian immigrants, he was deeply immersed in core biblical values and educated on life’s realities. The two-bedroom apartment that held his family— parents and two older sisters— was daily filled with the sounds of native Nigerian music and Gospel hip-hop. It’s no mystery that artists like T-Bone, Gospel Gangstaz, and Kirk Franklin still influence his music today.
Throughout his schooling, Osato excelled in music and poetry, having his first nationally published work at the age of 11. At the age of 15, he produced an album with the sole tools of a boom box, tape cassette recorder, and a keyboard! His career elevated in college where he cultivated his style writing, recording, and performing. In the subsequent years, he struggled to find a niche, wandering from studio to studio in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex area. The year 2008 proved to be a year of destiny when a divine connection landed him with powerhouse engineer “DJ Gent,” and the rest is history… Well, soon to be!
THE WALK
As a youngster, Osato was no stranger to Christ. He learned to read with a King James Bible and decided to follow Jesus long before his first day of school. “People don’t believe me when I say that I finished elementary school before I ever went to a movie theater, or that I was a teenager before I discovered FM radio. My parents did an incredible job keeping me grounded in the ways of God and away from the world. Sometimes I think they were almost too good.”
A turning point came when Osato went way to college, where his faith would tested. In the face of those who made arguments against the legitimacy of Jesus Christ, he was fully prepared with factual evidence that proved the Savior’s existence and validity. However, he struggled in the things that mattered more, like daily prayer, devotion, fellowship, and integrity. Issues like fornication, profanity, insecurity, and chasing money made his life spiral downward in a cycle of ups and downs that inhibited him from moving forward. It took years to realize that his profession of Christianity clashed with his lifestyle, until one day God spoke to Osato and told him to look at his life- Did he like it? Did it lead him to his destiny? Was it glorifying Christ?
That day Osato made a decision to actually BE a Christian. He started reading the Bible regularly, incorporating prayer into his daily routine, and of course, the hardest part—getting rid of all that held him behind. “It’s funny because my spiritual life always paralleled my music,” Osato explains. “When I was “doing me,” my rap was dark, shallow, and almost non-existent. I worked on one project for 3 years. [As] Soon as I got serious, the album and a mixtape were done in about 8 months. God didn’t care that I could rap well, He was more concerned with me really knowing Him and chasing Him.”
THE MIXTAPE
Osato is back with on a bangin’ mixtape. Whether it’s the catchy and melodic hooks, or the entrancing rhymes, every track on this cd will have you nodding your head to the beat, and saying ‘yes’ to Jesus. This project is the third edition of projects in the GRASSrootz Mixtape series from Osato. The title “Peep Game” comes from the urban vernacular that loosely translates to “examine my ways.” The idea of the Peep Game Mixtape is to cause current Christians to elevate their commitment to Christ in every area.
“It becomes a problem when a child leaves a church youth group to attend college, and loses their faith because they never really had a personal walk with God at all.” Songs like “Up On Game” and “Dead To Sin” hit hard with real-life situations that are “fruit” of a strong relationship with Christ, or the lack of one. Every listener will be compelled to hit the rewind button at some part of the cd just to ask “…Did he just say…” The answer is YES! He DID! Osato brings a bold and unashamed swag on to the Peep Game Mixtape—one that will definitely penetrate hearts and encourage any listener to follow Jesus fervently, and let the world ‘peep their game!’!!!
