About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
I love the luxuriant diversities of the English language. What's your favorite word or phrase? Change the world one word at a time. Spell it like it is and LEAVE IT ON MY REFRIGERATOR :-)
I had a friend tell me I am a "cross between an Urban Indiana Jones and a Japanese Buddhist Christian Monk; bathed in laughter, clothed in fine robes of music and infected with ink." Go figure. :-) "Lovingly Weird" is probably the most frequent response I get from my friends. :-)
I have an exceedingly contemplative mind but I'm very relational at heart. ***A beautiful answer is only preceeded by a more beautiful question. - E.E. Cummings*** words that I live by. I thoroughly enjoy spending time alone basking in the pool of "questions and unknown words" however I am equally invigorated by dialogue. I believe Conversation to be the art of true and unadulterated love making. I tend to be a little blunt though so be aware :-)
Communication and Communion is key [and I don't mean wafers and wine]. If we can learn how to sit and truly COMMUNE with God, ourselves, nature and each other [the Divine/Love without and within] we can promote tripartite health, growth and LIFE with every entity we come in contact. [you are probably expecting me to sing Kumbaya now I'm sure...well, why the hamphat aren't you joining me?] haha
I'm a true musician [piano is my first love], a writer [songs, prose, poetry, short stories, etc], a worshipper, a son, a brother, father to some [non-biological] and friend to many. I have a very loud, boisterous and appreciative laugh that is difficult to restrain [you can hear me from miles away]. I'm an intelligent man who LOVES to read anything I can get my hands on [but will projectile vomit at the sight of romance novels]. I'm somewhat of a self-proclaimed health nut who will cut you in the neck if you touch my cheesecake.
I have a great affinity for asian culture, spirituality, architechture and art. I love nature and I used to have an unhealthy relationship with Starbucks. :-) What do you expect? This is Seattle people!
You Are a Visionary Soul
You are a curious person, always in a state of awareness.
Connected to all things spiritual, you are very connected to your soul.
You are wise and bright: able to reason and be reasonable.
You have great vision and can be very insightful.
In fact, you are often profound in a way that surprises yourself.
Visionary souls like you can be the best type of friend.
You are intuitive, understanding, sympathetic, and a good healer.
Souls you are most compatible with: Old Soul and Peacemaker Soul What Kind of Soul Are You?
Your Element Is Water
A bit of a contradiction, you can seem both lighthearted and serious. That's because you're good at going with the flow - but you also are deep. Highly intuitive, you tune in to people's emotions and moods easily. You are able to tap into deep emotional connections and connect with others. You prefer a smooth, harmonious life - but you can navigate your way around waves. You have a knack for getting people to get along and making life a little more peaceful. What's Your Element?

YOU! and the God in you

Music:

Music is an agent to the toes of the Divine. So, every day I join with the rest of creation and sit at my piano to sing and play to a Divine audience. A friend would say "Vaughn, every morning you paint God's toenails. You should know by now what color 'She' likes?" :-)

Music is the language of life which transcends and triumphs every obstacle, challenge and barrier; so, I love it ALL!

Everything musical from...
Classical to Jazz
Country to Hip Hop
Old school to Techno
Spiritual to Heavy Metal
Birds near a stream to a
child blowing on a reed of grass -
YOU talking, and everything in between
I love, listen, dance and play it all.

Laughing baby...HILARIOUS!!!

Books:

There are too many to list so I will just list the ones that I'm currently reading and will update as needed. I have a tendancy to read several books at a time [3-4]. Currently they are:
The Alphabet vs. the Goddess - Leonard Shlain
Excellent book. Dr. Shlain proposes that the rise of literacy - more specifically, alphabet literacy - fundamentally reconfigured the brain and brought about profound changes in history, religion, and gender relations. Making remarkable connections across brain function, myth, and anthropology, Dr. Shlain shows why agricultural pre-literate cultures were principally informed by holistic, right-brain modes that venerated the "Goddess" [female aspects or depictions of God] and feminine values and images. Writing, particularly alphabets, drove cultures toward linear left-brain thinking. This shift upset the balance between men and women, initiating the decline of the feminine , and also ushered in the reign of patriarchy and misogyny. Examining the cultures of the Israelites, Greeks, Christians, and Muslims, he reinterprets many myths and parables in the light of his theory. He traces the effect of literacy on the Dark Ages, Mary, Gutenberg, the Reformation, and the witch hunts.
He also proposes that the proliferation of images in film, TV, graphics, and computers is once again reconfiguring the brain by encouraging right hemispheric modes of thought and bringing about the reemergence of the feminine. THIS IS DEFINITELY A MUST READ!
Race Matters - Dr. Cornel West [4th time] This book has changed the course of American dialogue about race, justice and democracy. It ranges from the crisis in black leadership to the myths surrounding black sexuality; from affirmative action to Black-Jewish relations. He confronts several prejudices with a compelling blend of philosophy, sociology, and political commentary laced with redemptive passion grounded in the traditions of the Black church. I have a love/hate relationship with this book [more love though] yet it seems I pick it up atleast twice a year to read it again. :-)
Living Buddha, Living Christ - Thich Nhat Hanh Explores the spiritual crossroads where the traditions of Christianity and Buddhism meet. It re-awakens our understanding of both religions and the connection between them. This is a good book that reminds us that we ALL are alive by and with the Spirit of God. Christians do not have a monopoly on the Holy Spirit: "All those who are led by the Spirit are daughters and sons of God." Romans 8:14. As I read this I am visited by the image of an amazing encounter between a Christian and a Buddhist, both living the monastic life [monks] and the awesome bond of friendship and spiritual connection they share. Start blooming frozen Christian! Springtime is at hand! When will you ever bloom if not here and now? Come alive by the Spirit of God! COME ALIVE!
The Seer - Jim W. Goll This book explores the role of a "Prophet" through a stream that is addressed significantly less than the primary "verbal" example so often seen in Christian culture; the Seer being one who is more visionary in nature. While the role of the prophet is familiar, less is known about the seer dimension. To many people, seers are perceived as mysterious and strange. It explores the realm of revelation through dreams, visions, and life under the "open heavens." This book has helped me to embrace my own "weirdness." :-)
