The Ozark Travelers

Authentic Bluegrass from the Hills of Old Missouri

About Me

One day in 2002, Jeremiah got it under his skin to buy a doghouse bass, and somebody had lent him this nasty old banjo that didnt deserve strings. We started clowning, just trying to make something that sounded good and next thing we know, Ryan came along and decided to make noise with us. We must have played those first couple tunes 5 thousand times and they still sounded pretty rotten. Eventually we realized to ever sound good we had to study the real stuff. Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, the Dillards and old-time mountain music by the likes of Dirk Powell and Tim Obrien got our ears open to the ancient tones that define the old southern sound. Having open ears makes you realize one thing in particular, to sound good, you've gotta have good instruments to play on. So we spent the last couple years paying off good ones and working on our sound. Down the line we met Collin and Rob, who both joined up and helped us get our band rolling in a good direction. Nowadays we play as much as we can together, keeping the music real and the old sound true in what we do. Weve got our own studio going now so you can expect a steady supply of tunes and a full length album in the near future. Until then, stick with us. This story has only just begun.
