About Me

Ph.D.-Candidate in musicology, University of Copenhagen. Composer (member of 'Vesterbro Komponistforening', short: Komvest). Singer (tenor), organist. In the beginning of 2006, I turned in my Master-Thesis in Copenhagen on the german 17th century composer Heinrich Schütz. After studying a year at the University of Greifswald (Germany), I returned to the University of Copenhagen. My ph.d-dissertasion will concern the same period as my thesis and discuss the term "musical foreignness" in connection to the cultural exchanges between the countries around the Baltic Sea (with focus on Copenhagen and Rostock) and the rest of Europe. For example, how was music from "foreign" confessions able to influence allmost all levels in the society, when the protestant countries officially tried to prevent their citizens from the "papal threat"? Did the nobility regard i.e. Italian court music just as "foreign" as the music played among their compatriots from lower social levels? Did the outer circumstances play a role at all, or was it the contact with the upper most modern musical aethetics of that time what mattered? In 2005 I won 2nd Prize in the composer contest at the 'Holmboe-festival'. In 2007 I won 1st prize with a piece for choir and organ. See more on our composer-network www.komvest.dk
