From his early days in the San Francisco psychedelic scene to multiplatinum fame with the Steve Miller Band and further solo work, David has always stayed close to his roots and the music community. In 1967 David joined the group All Night Flight which eventually became Frumious Bandersnatch. Frumious Bandersnatch was a seminal psychedelic band in the late '60s which received renewed notoriety in the late '90s from re-releases in Europe and the US.In 1970 David joined the Steve Miller Band, touring and recording with one of the biggest names in Rock and Blues. At the time, the lineup was: Steve Miller (guitar, vocals), Bobby Winkleman (guitar), Ross Valory (bass), and Jack King (drums).David left Miller in '73 to form the band Joker with Jack King, Brian Hough (bass) and Byron Allred (keyboards). (Byron would later play with Miller as well.) Joker then toured the Midwest with Rick McCamy replacing Jack.In '76 David rejoined the Steve Miller Band (with Byron) and toured in support of Miller’s multiplatinum album "Fly Like An Eagle". The following year the band recorded David’s song "The Stake" on the Miller Band album "Book Of Dreams.""The Stake" turned out to be one of Steve Miller's biggest hits, appearing on the Greatest Hits album in 1979, which has sold over 8 million copies to date. The song of burning confidence, well known by its chorus, "Nobody Loves You... Like The Way I Do..." portrays a classic bluesman's brag to his Luva. It was a perfect match for Steve Miller's "Gangster of Love" stage persona, and it still connects with each new generation that discovers Miller's music.n 1979, David decided to leave the band to spend more time with his family. He built the first of many recording studios and started recording demos and records for other artists: Tiggy Clay for Motown, Teresa Trull and Barbara Higbey, Ray Obiedo, Rosie Gains, Mark Russo (from the Yellow Jackets), the Mermen's first CD "Krill Slippin," and a long list of other Bay Area session players, including Pete Escovedo, Larry Batiste, Steph Burns, Carlos Reyes (Merlin) and the formidible Kathy Peck (Contractions). Kathy and David would later collaborate on an even bigger project, marriage!David was also still playing, and recorded his own projects including Calamari Gold with Bobby Scott (aka Squid Vicious), Ross Valory, David Perper and Bobby Vega. Another project, Diesel Harmonics began during this era.In 1987 David and Bobby Scott helped form, record, and produce The Sy Klopps Blues Band. The Sy Klopps Band is led by well known band manager Herbie Herbert, who managed Journey, Santana and Roxette and many others. David and Herbie go waaay back– all the way back to the same birthday in the same hospital in Berkeley... we won't say what year! Herbie even got his start in the music business by road managing Frumious. The Sy Klopps band also consisted of Ross Valory, Prairie Prince, Greg Errico, Herman Eberitzsch, Tony Lufrano, Bobby Strickland, Tom Fugelstad, Michael Peloquin, Neal Schon and a string of awesome guest musicians including Steve Miller, Norton Buffalo and Roy Rogers. David and Bobby Scott produced the first album, "Walter Ego." David and Chip Z'Nuff produced "Old Blue Eye is Back" with additional production ideas from Bobby Scott.David left the Sy Klopps Band in 1996 to pursue his own musical interests. He asked Ralph Woodson to replace him, as the perfect talent to fill David's shoes. With a renewed focus on his own projects, David returned to the Diesel Harmonics series of releases, which had begun in 1990."Diesel Harmonics" was David's concept of a five-guitar band which came from the mechanical engineering term for fine-tuning diesel motors. David used the idea to orchestrate each guitar part, blending to make one smooth sound. In 1993, David recorded and produced (with Stephen Jarvis) his first solo album titled "Diesel Harmonics," with David playing all the guitar parts, Prairie Prince on drums and Anders Rundblad (Wire Train, Cheryl Crow) on bass. The live band to recreate that Fender guitar onslaught was Dave Shul, Larry Trott, Gary Arrogo, Happy Sanchez (drums) and Jim Gordon (bass). David's son Mason Denny also played guitar for a few gigs.During all this David was on the road for various Steve Miller tours providing technical support and monitor mixing. In 1993 David recorded his song "Circle Of Fire" on Miller's album "Wide River." He also found the time to record the old Fleetwood Mac song "Without You" for the CD "Bay Area Blues Volume One," released on the German record label Taxim in 1996.In October 1997 David released his long awaited second CD "Louisiana Melody." This was produced by David and Stephen Jarvis with Tim Gorman and Nathaniel Kunkel and featured an all-star cast: Tim Gorman, Prairie Prince, Ross Valory, Myron Dove, Bobby Vega, Lyle Workman, Jerry Donahue, Jerry Miller, David Grisman, Steph Burns, Bobby Strickland, Kathy Peck, Michael Peloquin, Carlos Reyes, Annie Stocking, Genie Tracy and Larry Batiste. Their various credits include: The Who, Beck, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Mickey Hart, Jefferson Starship, Jerry Garcia, The Tubes, Journey, Todd Rundgren, KBC, Y&T, Dick Dale, Fairport Convention, Moby Grape, Zero, Harvey Mandel and the list goes on.Now David has completed his third CD, "Remnant of Grace," a live acoustic duo album with Carlos Reyes playing violin, released in late 2000 and available at www.daviddenny.com.
