The Worst there is.The Worst There Was.The Worst there ever will be!!!The Worst are a four piece hardcore punk rock band from Melbourne, Australia. They originally formed in 2001, but it wasn’t until July 6th, 2002 where they played their first gig with former local greats Hippy War Generals and ASIO Rejects. Since then they have played with other legendary Melbourne acts such as GGF, Charter77, No Idea, Glen & the Peanutbuttermen, Bastard Squad, Slick46 and Pisschrist. As well as sharing the stage with many interstate acts such as Change Over, Bulldog Spirit (now based in Melbourne), Punchline, Vicious, the Blurters, USV, Draft Dodger, Topnovil, SC Trash, Run for Cover and Zombie Ghost Train. They also opened for UK legends Anti-Nowhere League in 2006 for one of the League’s Melbourne shows. The band struggled hard for gigs in the early years, but their confidence grew after qualifying through the punk heat at the Launchpad 2004 battle of the bands. Playing an energetic, powerful 15 minute set at Club Evolution was all it took to captivate an entire room of skaters, pop punkers and sluts. Suddenly Luke’s phone started to ring, and gigs were rolling in for the Worst. They enjoyed a busy start to 2005 playing at venues they’d never played, and even took a trip up to Sydney for a two show weekend. This eventually got them on a Freeza promotion, which promotes underage shows, and are always drug and alcohol free. A sober Worst went on stage and blew the pubic hair off those kids, because the weeks to follow had the Worst flooded with emails from underage kids demanding more AA gigs. Thing’s were looking bright for the band and with plans on a long awaited new recording, thing’s could only get better. However, after gigging non-stop for the first half of 2005, the second half of the year found them struggling for gigs again and tensions grew within the band. Just as their recording was getting started the band were having major issues getting along, which led to them parting ways with their original bassist Harn. After their most successful gigging year, the Worst were without a bassist before it ended. But that didn’t stop them… They went ahead and recorded tracks for the ep, and drummer Steg played the bass tracks. The ep was recorded by Steg, mostly at his house in his oversized toilet. With the recording only needing to be mastered, the band were still short of a bass player and had a gig booked in Sydney for February ’06. With little time to scout, they recruited the skills of No Idea bassist Dik, to fill in for the Sydney show and promote the new recording. The show went off as they shared the stage with some of Sydney’s finest bands, Sydney City Trash, Topnovil, USV and the Blurters. Once they came back to Melbourne, they worked on new songs as a three piece and the search for a new bass player was on. It was another 6 months before the Worst returned to the stage with their slick young new recruit Tom on bass. It was their first Melbourne performance in nearly a year and with new songs they had written during their absence, it brought forward a new sound for the Worst. Their own. They are stronger than ever and plan on continuing writing more songs for a full length debut album. This new line up of the Worst have their heads held high and are looking forward to the future. They plan on hopefully touring, recording a full length album, playing more all ages gigs and getting some merch made. Who knows what can happen?THE WORST were:
