Band Members: QUESTION: You didn't start out as a gospel singer what was your musical background?ANSWER:
From a very early age it was my ambition to sing. I wrote my first song
when I was just 10 years old. As soon as I was old enough to join a band
I hooked up with some other musicians and worked on developing my
songwriting skills. After a while things started to take off and I did
quite a few gigs including a showcase at Ronnie Scotts jazz club, a club
tour in Scotland and some overseas work in Dubai. The type of music I did
back then was a mixture of rock, pop and RnB.QUESTION:
Why did you decide to pursue a career in gospel music?ANSWER:
Well....I went through a process which drew me nearer to God and it really
opened up my eyes to see that God is real and that I needed to get to know
the Lord on a deeper level. I actually got converted in a recording
studio believe it or not! (lol). After going through that experience I
realised that God wanted me to sing for him and it just felt like a
natural move for me to sing gospel.QUESTION:
Tell us a bit about your latest project?ANSWER:
Sure....I released my debut single which is called, "Waiting on You'. The
single was originally released as a promo and it was officially launched
November last year at the Gospel Grand Summit event in
Birmingham.QUESTION:
What were some of the highlights in connection with the single release?ANSWER:
Well the single was voted No1 in the United by One's hits chart so I was
really pleased about that because it makes me happy to know that people
are enjoying my music. It was also placed at No1 in New Nations Future
Flava chart so that was a bonus as well.QUESTON:
Who did you collaborate with to do the music?ANSWER:
The production and original mixes were taken care of by Delirious, I call
him my 'partner in rhyme' lol! we've been working together now for about 6
years. We also added an exclusive remix to coincide with the launch which
was done by Spiritled who have worked with Siani and Four Kornerz and
features Prodigal Son from Nottingham.QUESTION:
Is there a personal story behind the song?ANSWER:
Actually there is. The song speaks about going through a tough situation
but the answer is in the chorus which is to keep praising God and to wait
on him. I've been particularly challenged in my personal life to the
point where my very foundation has been shaken, but I believe that in
order to touch someone else's life we need to go through stuff. I guess
that's what qualifies you for ministry. When I see people touched by God's
presence in worship it really moves me, for me that's what ministry is all
about.QUESTION:
Although you're a newcomer as a gospel artist you are no stranger to the
industry can you share a bit of your background with us?ANSWER:
Yes of course, I have a background of PR so i've worked with some of our
well known Uk gospel artists' helping to promote and build their profile
as an artists.QUESTION:
Who are some of the people you've worked with?ANSWER:
Some of the people i've had the pleasure of working with have been
Greenjade, Watchman, Madeleine Kerzner, Noel Robinson and Patti Boulaye to
name a few. I've also participated behind the scenes in some key industry
events such as the Oasis Awards and the Gospel Grand Summit.QUESTION:
Which do you prefer PR or performing?ANSWER:
Well I have to say that performing is my passion. When i'm singing on
stage I feel like i'm in my element so that would have to come first but I
do enjoy the business side as well although it can be challenging
sometimes having to wear two hats!QUESTION:
So how did things work out for you in 2006 and what's next for Sharon?ANSWER:
Well last year was very productive and I was quite busy with the promotion
for the single. I did quite a few interviews including a mini radio tour
in the Midlands with BBC WM, BBC radio Leicester, BBC Derby and New Style
Radio in Birmingham. I did some TV recordings and a few gigs. I'm
currently working on the next single and preparing for the album. I want
to continue to make music that glorifies God and
I'd like to one day have my own PR & management company as well as lots of other things.....
