Joshua Murray,Born in Manhattan, grew up in New York and New Haven, USA. after university he worked for five years in New York as an industrial designer and musician before moving to Sweden in 1996. He has played music nearly his entire life. Since the age of 15 he’s been a bassist, guitarist and singer in many different bands, rock, jazz, reggae, punk, pop, soul, blues and more. He’s been writing his own songs for the past 15 years.In Sweden he’s played mostly solo at singer/songwriter clubs. But the past few years even gets reinforcement in the form of a drummer (Damali, also from New York), a bassist from England (Andrew Ellis), a swedish guitarist (Johan Regnell), and harmonies sung by Jessica Rudin.Nightlight was recorded live with his band on Sweden’s national Radio June 2000 for the program Skånespel (P4). The band playing on that recording was: Joshua Murray (songwriter, guitar, vocals), Leslie ”Kogge” Mellen (guitar), Jessica Lundgren (harmonies), Andrew Ellis (bass), Viggo Haremst (drums).Joshua recorded the other songs himself.His multifaceted music has been often compared to many different bands/artister: Blues traveller, seal, dave mathews, richie havens, peter gabriel, natalie merchant, & ben harper to name a few, but more than anything else people comment that his voice has the feel of a male version tracy chapman.Some new songs are being written at the moment and will be up on Myspace as soon as they are recorded.The latest recordings are from a live show at Möllevångs festival in Malmö Sweden July 25 2009, the band was Andrew Ellis-bass, Martin Grahn-drums, Jessica Rudin-vocals, Helga Asgeirsdottir-violin, just too bad the record level was a bit low.
