YoYo Static and the Shockettes

About Me

We are YoYo Static and the Shockettes and we're from Sheffield (exciting, huh?). James, sings, plays guitar and mangles the keys on an old Vox. He's the uncle to Patrick who hits his drums very hard indeed. Patrick is the son of Stephen who also sings a bit and plays bass. Then there is John, who is James' cousin and plays uberfuzz guitar. Anyway, one day when we were all a bit bored we decided to play together for a bit of fun. Soon we realised that we actually sounded alright. Some gigs followed but there was still something lacking. Enter Callum. Someone asked at a gig if Callum was in the group to improve overall sex appeal. That is true but he can also play saxophone in a cooool Roxy kind of a way. And now we have the Shockettes consisting of Charlotte, Sarah, Catrin, Roisin, Polly, Sophie, Ellie and Roseanne who add their beach girls/gospel harmonies to make a new wall of sound. ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................................................... REVIEWS.............................."Ecstatic!" ....... THE SANDMAN............................"Sheffield four piece YoYo Static, the self titled “indie Osmonds”, have put together 4 cracking little tracks blending punk, new wave and indie pop. Sharp and spiky, with delicate vocals over glockenspiel one moment and fiery lyrics over jangly guitars the next, little bursts of electronic wizardry and a whole lot of musical energy, YoYo Static bring to mind bands like Franz Ferdinand, the Fall and at times even The Smiths. Definitely one to listen out for." THE SANDMAN...................................."YoYo Static are definitely a breath of fresh air away from where the Sheffield music scene seems to be heading. Their original blend of thumping bass lines, spiky guitar parts and driving beats . YoYo Static sound like a car crash between everything that has been good about music in the last thirty years. their music calls upon subtle flecks of punk, funk, new romantic, britpop and even a slight hint of new rave to boot. Not a bad amalgamation of styles and influences to be in a road accident with." THE SANDMAN........................................"Dreary" THE SANDMAN (oh well 3 out of 4 aint bad, maybe we should all start wearing luminous clothes to brighten things up a bit.
