LEONI SANTANDER is a singer, dancer, songwriter and producer. A Dutch..Chilean born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Leoni is known as one of the co-founders and lead singer of the world fusion group BAYUBA CANTE. World music crossover with elements of Yoruba songs, blending flamenco, indian and world beat. BAYUBA made 2 albums " Cheba Cheba" and "Orunmilas Dance". Released by "NETWORK MEDIAN", Germany. They have toured all over Europe, Canada and Cuba for 6 years.
Santander started as a teenager in theatre school and dance. As a young adult she went and lived in Habana, Cuba to study music. She has been trained in the old yoruban songs from the Santaria tradition. With this knowledge she has given workshops with bata drummers in this vocal tradition for over 10 years in Europe and has been a guest performer with various groups. She has done voicework for tv-advertisment and documentaries. Santander wanted to create something different this time and create songs/worlds about life and dreams through the eyes of a woman. Coming from a family of journalists/theatre writers/filmmakers and peace activists, leoni wanted to contribute in her own way. Santander is known as a warm/energetic performer with love for the work in the art of music and dance, especially creating various worlds and atmosphere.At the moment she is working together with Jeroen van Hoof - www.myspace.com/baromoey - and others to create MAMA DC's sound. Together they started out with the song MAMA DC and created a music/animation clip done by Bouwine Pool. Its a preview of wat the project will bring. This animation clip has been viewed on film/animation festivals around the world. Holland- HAFF, Portugal, Turkey ,Austria- Tricky Woman festival, Brazil- Anima Mundi and more.
