My parents always threw large get-togethers on boxing-day, bringing together random family members, co-workers, and neighbors. Nobody brought any children, as it was an adult party. But, they didnt know I would sneak to the edge of the landing and listen quietly from upstairs. I knew I would be scared later on, but found myself to be very intrigued, hearing about the boy my mothers friend had met in my parents bedroom that night. In fact, just a couple hours ago it had happened. Walking upstairs to get her coat to go out for a cigarette, she noticed a boy standing beside the other side of the bed. She said hello and grabbed her coat. She thought not to mention it as my brother and I were around, and thought we must have friends over.Later on, when casually bringing up the boy to my mother, she finds that the only children in the house that night were my brother and me. My mother shows her friend pictures to see if she can pick out the boy. She instantly picks out my older brother who had died of Leukemia when he was six. Looking at each other they both know what had happened. I on the other hand am terrified, and laying at the top of the stairs, beside my parents room. I still commit to memory the blank feeling.
