SYNDICATE OF INITIATIVE & UNDERGROWTH presents....THE 4TH BOHEMIAN MASQUERADE BALL at the (exquisite) THORNBURY THEATRE MARCH 7TH $25-$20 pre-sale @ Open Studio or through other 'Syndicate of Initative' eventsThere once exisited a time... where classy, regal celebrations were considered mandatory, to uphold the grace of artistic cultures. As the decades swanned out, the bougesise drowned in their own opulence, refining their tastes but mannered their expressions into a dusty relic of boredom.. the lowly bru-ha-ha classes found themselves in front of boxes watching atheletes, poker machines, or doing a primitve 2 step to an electronic loop. Through the cracks and small pockets, an epheremal spirit of bohemia continued to reform, slipping through the accounting systems of greedy bar owners, commerical festivals, calvin klein ad's, the apathy of hipsters & post-modern fallacys & the akward passion of left wing poltics. The Bohemian Masquerade Ball is run soley by artists, they endevour to create the highest quality explosion of inspiration, entertaiment & celebration for their vibrant community that is mostly based on the inner north side of Melbourne. Drawing mostly from those areas in Melbourne, but also with it's sister mini city West End in South Brisbane, and it's ugly cousin Newtown & Marrickville in Sydney. The sense of communtity that is based not on postcodes, genres, politics or fashion will be a determining factor for the future or art & entertainment, we are but simular people with shared needs, the need to express and inspire, without attitudes, egos or cliches. Musically they all share a prodigal competency for their instruments and an almost psychic ability to read each other’s minds when improvising. In fact, improvisation is what makes them such an exceptional band as each time you see them is a new and fresh experience. Kafkas impressive gig history includes dates at: Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane Festival Speigeltent, Valley Fiesta, The West End Festival, Island Time Festival, Straight Out of Brisbane Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival (Live Score), the Carnival on Collins in Cairns and the Valley Jazz Festival. www.myspace.com/kafkafunk
