About Me

The story so far...Firstly, there was Koffi, a vocalist/sound engineer/producer, hailing from the Ivory Coast, heavily into all things dub, reggae, funk and the whole west african rhythmic style, but without direction! Then there was Silver, a journeyman bassist, heavily into punk/rock, in and out of bands. (eventually ended up in 'The Primitives' at the end of their career). He also found himself without direction!A mutual friend (he knows who he is) knew of their void, "kidnapped" them, took them to the deep heart of Kent, and said "make some music!" So what kind of music could be made with these vastly different styles? West meets west. West African enchanting rhythms vs the energy, power of all things punky/rocky. I heard once that they were ask what happened during the "kidnapping", "he gave me the rock" said Koffi, "he gave me the funk" said Silver. Would their two styles work together? through jamming, their diverse styles started to melt...up to a point. Something was still missing...Whilst engineering for 'Demi Soma' (ex Fella Kuti's keyboard player) in Brixton, Koffi came across Feyi (drums). Suddenly things began to make sense...Feyi's Nigerian afro-beat style would be the canvas of the band's music, which he later on christened 'Ropofunk'.Many guitarists tried to bring their style to the band's avant-garde canvas. Their 'brush-strokes' or 'hue' weren't quite right, until... Rick came along. A colorful character if ever there was one. Hailing from Brazil, he "Sambaed" his way into the frame, putting the rock where the "rock's supposed to be". The "Picture", completed for all to see...the music is now for all to hear."Come Share Our Shelter". MyGen Profile Generator
