About Me

Ebola My Space Index! Blunt Wound Trauma by Micky McGuinness out now

A collection of 10 short stories which range from the fast paced and brutal Harvest which careers its way across Europe; to the more thoughtful and reflective The Jad which deals with growing up on Tyneside. Feral deals with the clash between modern urban youth and someone who tried to live their dream and extend their youth into adulthood. Scorpio is a tale of revenge which won Red Bubble Short Stories - Spherical Scriptings writing groups Zodiac 13 competition. Mariella is a short sequel to Harvest which hints at a new life for Mariella outside of her life of drudgery. Kerfuffle is a short fast paced story of obsession and love. Bastille Day is a humorous tale which will strike a chord with anyone who is doomed to the penal servitude of the school run! Colin is a short tale which will leave you guessing to the very last moment; while Night Shift is look at the seedy underbelly of life in a low rent Belgian night club. The book wraps up with the short and brutal Deadline.
Micky has spent the last twenty six years concentrating on not making any money from playing in a succession of bands such as The Blood Robots, Generic, Anything But That, One By One, Ebola, and currently Jinn; and thought it was time to add pen to plectrum as weapon of torture.
Review "Drawing on his years in the gritty DIY punk scene, and dredging up universal memories of bleak, grey childhoods, Micky McGuinness has penned a deliciously grim and nihilistic collection of hard-nosed crime fiction, peopled with the sort of realistically nasty characters we might all have grown up with living next door to us... shining a light into the darkest recesses of the subconcious where REVENGE is king, this is an impressively memorable body of believable work that will stay with you long after the last bloody act of retribution has splattered the final page..." --Ian Glasper author of Burning Britain and The Day The Country Died.
Review "Authentic fiction that evokes a period, only twenty years ago, that now feels lost. Whether it's bands touring Europe for the price of a beer or kids feuding during a warm summer, McGuinness captures the era in a way that feels honest..." Lee Smith: Black Flame Books
Review "Gritty, hard-hitting, no-nonsense missives fuelled by endless hours on the dirtiest roads and in the dirtiest bars, bringing to mind the fine tradition of Kerouac, Bukowski and Thompson. A juggernaut that can't be stopped once it gets rolling." Kunal Nandi : SuperFi

************************************************************ ********************************** Some of you might have noticed that I have disappeared from the punk rock forum world and MySpace; that is partly because I have been busy writing fiction and setting up a micro publishing business; no I’m not going to be publishing really small books! “Micro” because I’m going to be publishing a relatively small amount of books per year… small that is compared with the big boys.
The first title is *Blunt Wound Trauma* which is an anthology of my own short stories. I’m hoping to have this available by the end of January 2009; so hang onto those Amazon Vouchers that you get for Xmas! I’ll do another update when the publication date is firmed up; in the mean time you can check out my web site for further info. Gibboncore
For those of you interested in Jinn; we are still going… we even played a gig on Saturday, 2009 will bring new recordings and maybe even another Euro Tour. Cheers
Micky

Just doing some tidying up on this page, and putting a bit more info about who did what and when.
When I get a bit more time I might try and link to some of the current bands and projects of the various ex Ebola members.
At the moment though I’ll just waffle on a bit about my current band, and my kids!
The Jinn LP is still waiting for a release date from SuperFi, but we are told it will be out soon… and I’ll spare you the details of the children’s party I endured this morning at TJ’s soft play jungle!!!
************************************************************ ********************************** Since I last updated this Karin and I have had our second child, that makes 5 Ebola babies in total! Obviously since then we have been really busy, and really tired!
We popped over to Belgium to stop with Karin’s folks, and managed to get out to see Grinding Halt level Oostende to it’s foundations with some mighty downtuned riffs.
Jinn are back in the practice rooms, and our fourth LP should be out sometime in April. Expect the usual high velocity fun, with a sharper production, and a few more tricks and twists than previously.Gibboncore and Jinn MySpace sites.

Jonathan Shaw, who provided the awesome male vocals on the first Ebola Lp; was laid to rest after a short humanist service of remembrance, at the chapel in Whitley Bay cemetery, on Friday the 13th of October 2006.
Rest In Peace
