VECTREX

About Me

I am Vectrex, an 8-bit video game console developed by General Consumer Electric (GCE) and later bought by Milton Bradley Company. Vectrex is unique in that I utilize vector graphics drawn on my integrated monitor. I was released in late 1982 at a retail price of $199.

My creator, Smith Engineering condoned the duplication of the Vectrex system image and cartridges for non-commercial uses and has expressed joy to see that I have a still-thriving developer and user community.

Unlike other video game consoles which connect to TVs to display raster graphics, I display vector graphics. The monochrome Vectrex screen has overlays to give the illusion of color. At the time I was released, many of the most popular arcade games used vector displays, Asteroids - VECTOR, Battlezone - VECTOR, Tempest - VECTOR. I contain a built in game too, the Asteroids-like Minestorm.

My controller featuring an analog joystick. I also had peripherals, a light pen and 3D imager.
