Studio Rarekwai (SRK) is an independent cross-media studio based in London. We produce films and documentaries, television programs and publications on a variety of contemporary subjects. SRKs first self-produced documentary film on Japanese Hip Hop culture Scratching The Surface: Japan, featured on the award winning French Television show; Tracks (22/04/2004, ARTE) and was subsequently televised across Europe in April 2004. This was immediately followed by successful screenings at the 12th Raindance Film Festival in London, the Leeds International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Hip-Hop Film Festival.To follow up the success of Scratching The Surface: Japan, SRK presented a successful live Japanese Hip Hop showcase at the 2005 Sonar Festival in Barcelona, featuring artists from the film.Currently SRK is working on a number of exciting projects including a Jazz & Hip Hop documentary based in Seoul, Korea, a music & culture documentary based in the UK and a publication on Japanese graffiti.
