BREAK-UP, DATE Trailer!
I am happy to report that Break-Up, Date has been completed!
I am even happier to report that it will be playing at a film festival! At the end of February, the 2008 Lake County Film Festival (in Lake County, Illinois) will be playing our humble documentary. I couldn’t be happier! I have only just begun submitting this film to festivals around the country and it’s encouraging to see that it has been selected so soon.
I am very pleased with how the film came out. It has something to say about the state of single-dom, relationships in a fast-paced culture and how people tend to sabotage relationships before they even have a chance to begin. It even has likable “characters†(or whatever you call documentary subjects) and an unexpected story arch. In short, I am a proud filmmaker and already feel very rewarded for taking on this project.
The film started shooting in August of 2006 and finished in June of 2007. The film runs about 90 minutes. It features regular people and experts giving their unique takes on break-ups, dating, meeting people online, speed dating, being a Nerd and, yes, Cuddle Parties. Some of the wonderful contributors include filmmaker Jeff Lipsky (writer-director of the 2006 film Flannel Pajamas), Jillian Straus (author of Unhooked Generation: The Truth About Why We’re Still Single), WGN radio talk show host Nick Digilio, singer-songwriter Kitty Mortland, dating coach Shanti Owen and the founders of Cuddle Party.
Where/when can I see it? Although the film has been selected to play the Lake County Film Festival, times and dates have yet to be determined. I will post the information here as soon as it becomes available.
A big thanks to everyone who helped make this movie possible. I think you’ll all be really proud that you helped out on it and made it that much better. It was very much a personal project with no money behind it, except my own. Thank you for giving me your time, for being patient with me and for spilling your guts. It took courage. You’re a brave lot and I couldn’t be happier for it.
What else is new?I’m still teaching with Barrel of Monkeys. Yay! I’m so happy they let me stay and do it some more. Being on stage and teaching with Barrel of Monkeys has been one of the great experiences of my life and I can’t wait to do it again. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, click on their myspace page and learn more (they’re in my Top Friends list below). I made a documentary about them a few years ago called Meet the Monkeys, the trailer for which you can find on this page somewhere.
There will also be a Multihead Productions web site devoted to Break-Up, Date sometime in the near future.
I am currently taking a hiatus from writing film reviews, although I may return soon now that the film is done. You can still hear me every week review movies on The Nick Digilio Show on WGN Radio, Sunday nights between 10pm-2am.Thank you for all your support! Have a great 2008!
