The band was founded in the middle of 1997 by two guitarists: Dzeju and Michal. Finally, the line-up crystallized later in December and the band started regular rehearsals and played a few concerts. Due to growing interest in the bands work, WHICHHEAVEN decided to record their first demo tape. The debut was recorded by Blackflame-voc, Dzeju-l.guit, Michal-guit, Kynio-bass, Radek-keys and Pawel-drums. The recordings of the tape, entitled WITCHHEAVEN, took place at Warsaw studio Mach in June 1998. The material consisted of 5 tracks in mid tempos and received a major interest both in Poland and abroad. Tracks from WITCHHEAVEN were aired in many radio stations in Italy and Portugal and were reviewed by metal magazines. The band also played a number of concerts to promote the material.
In 1999, after a few months of break, the band started to write and rehearse for the new tracks. In the meantime Pawel and Kynio were replaced by Lucas and Erian. In November the band entered Hertz studio to record a second demo, entitled SHADOWBREED. The material consisted of five tracks, intro and outro. This time, the music was much heavier and more complex. The tape received enthusiastic reviews in polish and international zines, which led to a number of interviews. Some of the tracks were included on two US compilations (for Khage prodand others). WHICHHEAVEN is also present in the Internet and its official website is due to be released within days.
In June of 2001, the band once again entered Hertz studio and recorded their first LP, entitled RESPAWNING THE GODS. Just before the session, Radek left the band and his parts on the album were recorded by Erian. The material consists of 8 tracks and intro, out of which 4 were chosen for promotion. Some time after the recordings, the band was contacted by a label called World War III and was offered a record deal. Although the contract was signed, unfortunately due to labels promotional and financial problems it was broken a couple of months later, while WHICHHEAVEN has almost completed writing the tracks for the new album. Also, the band parted ways with their lead guitarist, who was replaced by bass player, Erian. The bass duties were taken over by Andy, who previously played in such bands as Archeon and April Ethereal.
Willing to finish the writing process and record the album, the band entered the studio on its own. The drums tracks were recorded in Serakos studio in Warsaw and rest of the material was tracked, as usual, in Hertz studio in Biaystok. The outcome is called GATES OF THE UNIVERSE - a complex, melodic death metal album with brutal vocals and interesting harmonies. One of the tracks from the album (Arise) appeared on a compilation CD entitled HELLISH ARTS OF PERVERSION PT. 2, which was released by Flaming Arts Production. Also, the promotional CD for the latest album recieved extremely posistive feedback in magazines such as Masterful Magazine or Multum In Parvo. In the meantime, Erian and Michal joined the acclaimed death metallers, DEVILYN. With that band, they've participated in the recording session of the latest album XI and are still playing shows to promote the album. Naturally, playing with DEVILYN didn't put WHICHHEAVEN aside - the band has already wrote most of the material for the next album and is planning to enter the studio next year. Now WHICHHEAVEN is looking for a reliable label to release their latest and best album yet.
