He coined the phrase “its 6 o’clock, its 6 o’clock, time for Greg Street to Rock!†Now, this phrase can be heard on airwaves everywhere by radio DJ’s incorporating their own name.Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Street began his radio career working at WORV and WJMG. He later moved to WHSY, juggling night clubs and party gigs while producing and distributing his own mix tapes. Street would eventually relocate to Mobile, Alabama becoming the evening shift air talent and producing all of the stations mix shows. Over the next several years he went on to make his move on the Southwestern circuit of Houston’s Magic 102 and K-104 in Dallas. Then, in 1995, Street made his move to Atlanta, where he began broadcasting his crafty blend of commercial commentary and hot tracks on Atlanta’s BIG Station V103. After a six year, number one stint at V103; the Dallas market made an offer that Street could not refuse, so he headed back to K-104. However the fans in Atlanta would not forget Street. Not willing to totally let go of the Atlanta market, Street still kept his 6 o’clock slot on Saturdays in Atlanta crowning him the “Hip Hop Fly Jock†of the airwaves and earning more than 300,000 Delta Sky Miles flying back and forth between the two cities. When he’s not working concerts and events, Street can be found in metro area schools, delivering his message to kids: Stay away from drugs, practice safe sex, and stay in school. He knows he has a responsibility to the kids and to give back to the community. In fulfilling that commitment, he launched the Greg Street Scholarship Fund, established to award a scholarship to one of Atlanta’s and one of Dallas’ deserving kids, who otherwise would not get a chance to attend college. In addition, he gives young boys the opportunity to become men by teaching them the fundamental traits to be successful in life providing yearly trips that allow them to get out of their negative environments to see that there are other options, and providing a safe and educational environment through his children’s foundation, Operation Correct Start/The Street Foundation. For his hard work on the air and dedication to the community, Street was nominated for Billboard’s Major Market Personality of the Year in 1996 and earned the NBPC Major Market Personality of the Year in 1997 and 1999. In addition, he was the first recipient of the Think B.I.G. Heart Award from the Christopher “Notorious B.I.G. Wallace Memorial Foundation. He has also taken his Southern-flavored sound to streets across the nation with his “Its 6 o’clock†Mix Tapes. This year 6 o’clock volume 2 will be released in September on the 1st Mix Tape Label. But, it does not stop there… In addition to mix tapes and blowing up the air waves, he is producing a sneaker show and a talent showcase entitled "Greg Street's Showcase" which gives local artist the opportunity to perform before industry officials. Street is also the producer of the Greg Street Celebrity Car & Bike Show and will launch a 6-city celebrity car show tour this year; release a car show CD and DVD featuring footage from his previous car shows in Dallas and Atlanta which will feature music from Pastor Troy, Killa Mike, TI and more!
