Bee vs. Moth

About Me

Bee vs. Moth is a multiple-genre, weirdo instrumental rock band from Austin, Texas. Our mission is to bravely explore the little-traveled and oft-neglected territory between Ornette Coleman's doom metal band and Mr. Rogers' dude ranch. Along the way, we'll tromp through a few Latin tunes, knock over some perfectly good chords, and spill improvised solos on our nice, clean shirts.

Intrigued? Appalled? Come see us soon!

Our debut album, Soundhorn, is available online and in Austin record stores. The Austin Chronicle calls it “hard ear candy for your soft inner child.”

“If pressed to classify Bee vs. Moth’s debut album, one would most likely futilely revert to “jazz,” though that hardly does justice to the strange and far-reaching versatility that sprawls throughout the instrumental album.” ( Austin Sound )

Sounds Like: People have written or told us ...

"Bee vs. Moth’s eclectic sound can be attributed to diverse instrumentation and a willingness to explore genres outside the mainstream. Still firmly rooted in the familiar, Bee vs. Moth is different but manage to acquaint themselves with their audience." (Austin Sound Check)

"You guys sound like Sonic Youth meets the Tijuana Brass."

"Bee vs. Moth's lean fusion of jazz and postpunk yields thoughtfully taut arrangements." (Time Out Chicago)

"Trumpet-infused quartet Bee vs. Moth bounces around jazz, post-punk, and ska, igniting the senses with a mix of Elfmanesque melodies and brainy exploration."

"Charles Mingus meets Deerhoof with a lot more tuba and vibraphone." (a fan)

"Bee vs. Moth will confuse and delight with as many wordless genres as possible." (Austinist)

"The experimental Bee vs. Moth draws its membership and taste for free-jazz freak-outs from the Austin New Music Co-Op scene."
