John Taylor

About Me

One day in 1976, 6-year old John Taylor picked up his sister's acoustic guitar and asked "What's this?" In 1980, a few years and many rousing choruses of "O Where O Where Has My Little Dog Gone" later, John again picked up his brother's P-bass, asking "What's this?". His brother put on Outlandos d'Amour from The Police and basically said "You figure it out."
Now, with several projects to his credit and 4 solo albums behind him , John Taylor -has- figured it out. A veteran player in several styles, Taylor's playing has been described as "awesome", "captivating", "what the FUCK", and "Chris Squire on crack". Influenced by the greats of bass playing such as Les Claypool, John Patittucci and Geddy Lee, and the greats of touchstyle/Stick playing like Tony Levin, Gary Jibilian, and Jean Baudin, John takes elements of those greats and fuses them into his own amalgam of uniqueness.
John's latest album, Amerikan Idle, features new versions of some old riffs, and a few of his friends as well. He is also working with modern alternative band Pierce Point and progressive rock band Coinslot .
JOHN USES:
