About Me

.........Angela Luna is the mic-wielding mama who sings with guts, tenderness, and honesty. Her electrifying stage presence has been compared to an "evangelical preacher redeeming souls" (Jayne Keedle), but she prefers to let the music do the baptising. Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, Angela has journeyed with such talents as jamie strange, Ramon and the Monster, The Evil Beetles, Moonmama Soul Camp & Jet Black Jane, until a bizarre alien abduction (see photo) brought her to the west coast. She has toured with and written music for the activist theater group The Judy Dworin Performance Ensemble, as well as worked as an animal control officer as a dog-rescuer and wildlife rehabilitator. Singing to the animals as she cleaned cages offered her quite a captive audience...Angela's latest release, HOPE NATION (RRR Records), takes a bold step combining her unique vocal style with some of the top fresh new talent from Johnnesburg, South Africa. Teaming up with producer Derek Nakamoto, this cd was tracked with SA Music Award Producer of the Year/guitarist Lawrence Matshiza, bassist Lucas Senyatso, drummer Rob Watson, engineer Jasper Williams, and mixed by Ryan Freeland. The collection of songs is a hybrid blend of driving rock/R&B rhythms with the flavor and soul of South Africa's township grooves. Along with horn and string arrangements, the collaboration perfectly frames Angela's lyrical interpretation of personal life stories, the street life of Los Angeles, and the many sides of love.Available on iTunes and CD Baby, Dan Barry from The Hartford Advocate states: "HOPE NATION is ass-shakin...loaded with instrumentation that would be at home on Paul Simon's Graceland album, delivered with Luna's trademark sweet-melodic rap; it has a thematic similarity to much of M.I.A's music: it makes political rebellion sound like the raddest celebration on planet earth."
VIDEO DEBUT OF MOTHERLODE WITH DIRECTOR SARAH ELGART AND CINEMATOGRAPHER/DP AYMERIC MONTOUCHET (no turtles were harmed in the making of this video)
The music video "Lies" features krump by "Rize's" Lil' C and a driving song from the critically acclaimed album THE TRUTH AGAINST THE WORLD. Shot against the urban backdrop of Nelles Correctional Facility for Youths in Los Angeles; "Lies" conceptually suggests that hatred and intolerance are taught to our children. Directed by noted choreographer Sarah Elgart, "Lies" had its debut at the Hollywood Film Festival, as well as official entry into The Miami Underground, Golden Shorts, and The Other Venice Film Festival. "Lies" is the first video ever to receive Best Director/Best in Show from The Accolades Competition. Other awards include: Best Video, Moondance Film Festival, 2007, & Best Solo Performance, 2008, At A Glance Film Festival.
