Shoguns Of Doom

About Me

We live in a time where music is assembled boardrooms instead of garages.
We live in a time where songs are written armies of songwriters for puppet performers.
We live in a time where record contracts are handed away on television to karoke singers.
We live in a time where Paris Hilton has a record contract.
From the dark spaces, the Shoguns of Doom rise in reaction to this sad musical time.
In 1989, Shogun Eff (Low Bass and drum programming) laid the groundwork with a collection of demos under the moniker Plug. Plug eschewed traditional song structures by building riffs around drum machine beats to create songs that were closer related to movie soundtracks. Shogun Eff built these songs using pounding guitars, battery-drained keyboards, drum machines and drills. The music was metal but had more in common with Godflesh than Metallica. In 1991, Shogun Eff crawled into his cave, bass in hand and has remained silent.
Until now.
From the dank caves of Pennsylvania, Shogun Eff returns with his new project, Shoguns of Doom. After recruiting the talents of Shogun Cue (High-End Bass), the Shoguns began working on new songs in the blackest corners of Pennsylvannia which culminated in the recording of their demo, Ultra Mega Super Sonic, most of which was recorded in a cave that exists behind the Shoguns private studio: Cro-Magnum Opus.
The Shoguns have created a slab of doom as dense and atmospheric as the cave it was recorded in. The Shoguns of Doom use the bass guitar as their primary instrument. While some keyboards can be heard on the demo, there are absolutlely no 6-string guitars to be found in Shogun country. Why use guitars when you can have bass? Lots and lots of bass, replied Shogun Eff in a recent interview by journalist Robin Clark. When asked why the Shoguns chose not to use traditional 6-string guitars, Shogun Eff answered, "We are cavemen. If there instruments back in the stone age, the cavemen would have played bass."
