FYI: The era of 8084 ended in June of 2006. This is now a tribute site as the former members have gone their seperate ways... If you wish to contact individual members, please visit their individual MySpace sites.
Energetic, charismatic and dedicated, 8084 have been exciting audiences for over a decade. Sharing the stage with such acts as Aldo Nova, Toto, April Wine, Warrant, Edgar Winter, Blue Oyster Cult, Henry Lee Summer, the group has performed throughout all of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southern States, as well as Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. Whether in an intimate club in Columbus, Georgia or before 10,000 people at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada, 8084 always demonstrates the ability to please a crowd.
A dynamic team comprised of lead vocalist Randy Smith, guitarist-vocalist André Maquera, bassist-vocalist Roy Brown and drummer-vocalist, Gary Spaulding.
8084 released their first album in 1987; produced by Elektra artist Hirsh Gardner. The self-titled album, which sold 10,000 + units overseas, met with excellent critical acclaim in both North America and Europe. Rock publications such as "The Beat" (Boston), "Rock Report" (New York City), "AOR Basement" (England) and "Ardshock Metal Hammer" (The Netherlands) gave the band very encouraging reviews.
1987 was a banner year for 8084, with André capturing "Best Instrumentalist" and the band "Best Group" at the annual New Hampshire Music Awards. The highlight of the year, however, came with taking first place honors at "Rocksearch 87 International" held in Montreal. Open to all North American bands, representatives and A & R personnel from companies such as Virgin and CBS Records and Yamaha Music judged Rocksearch.
1988-89 found 8084 recording and releasing their second album, "Love & War." Working with the expert production skills of Aldo Nova (Life is Just A Fantasy" and Celine Dion), Hirsh Gardner, and CBS Records Canada, the album was completed and received as a more mature 8084 sound. Initial reaction by radio stations was very positive. "Hideaway," the first single from the album, was included in the regular airplay rotation at a number of FM stations throughout the Northeastern US and The Netherlands.
Following the death of keyboard player and founder Charlie Hawthorne in 1989, 8084 released their third album, "Satisfaction Guaranteed" in the fall of 1991 . That album was received well regionally, and recently has been reissued in European countries such as Germany and Sweden as a sought after import.
Signing an agreement with USA label GB Music, a compilation disc of material from the band's first three albums entitled "So Far" was released in Europe on January 5, 2000. To date, the album has sold very well as an import in the foreign and indie markets.
In 2005, 8084 wrote and recorded new material for their fifth international release titled "The Last Great Train", the album showcases a simple but powerful sound, with the strong melodic hooks that have always branded the 8084 sound. The CD was released worldwide in October of 2006. In June of 2006 the lead singer, Randy Smith left the band to pursue other interests. As of today the band has not found a replacement but continues to write and record with the hopes of one day playing live again with a new singer.
