My Grandmother Yvonne L. (Delaney) Prestwich, 68, of Enfield entered into her eternal rest on Friday, June 2, 2006, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.Born on January 28, 1938, in Teaneck, N.J., Yvonne was the beloved daughter of the late Richard M. and Suzanne Delaney. Prior to her moving to Connecticut, she was employed for General Electric in the armament department in Burlington, Vt. In Connecticut, she was employed by Hamilton Standard and at the Connecticut State Capitol. Yvonne worked for Imprint Papers of West Hartford as the managing editor of the Longmeadow News, Windsor Locks Journal, and the Enfield Press. She retired from the town of Enfield in 2001, where she worked as a secretary for the Enfield Senior Center. Yvonne was an active member of the Enfield community. From 1978-82, she served as a commissioner on the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission. In 1980, she helped open the doors to the Old Town Hall Museum on Enfield Street. A member of the Enfield Republican Women's Club and the Enfield Republican Town Committee, she was named 1982's Woman of the Year and was named Enfield Republican of the Year for 2005.In 1980, she assisted in creating PECOS, which lobbied at the Capitol to change laws concerning the enforcement of child support orders, allowing women to stay off welfare. In 1984, Yvonne was instrumental in helping to establish The Network Against Domestic Abuse. Since 1999, she had been a member of the Enfield Stroke Support Group. Prior to living in Enfield, Yvonne lived in Vermont for 12 years and established many friendships that continued through her lifetime. She was fond of the years that she spent in Vermont and enjoyed visiting there often.A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, she is survived by her son and two daughters, Tommy Prestwich and his companion, Jeanne, of Suffield, Anna Delaney and her companion, Richard, of Enfield, Sarah Prestwich and her companion, Jack, of Suffield; her 10 grandchildren, Carly and Courtney Prestwich, Jeffrey Bridge, Melissa Betterley, Tony and Angel Ward, Andrea, Alex, and Aaron Rosato, and Anaya Day; two great-grandsons, Kaden Ward and Kenny Betterley; and her four sisters and their husbands, Maureen and Lou Veprek of Commack, N.Y., Joyce Thompson and Ted Davis of Richmond, Ind., Laura and Lou Stigler of Vernon, N.J., and Denise and Mike Cannizzaro of Lafayette, N.J.Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, June 6, at 9 a.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels for a procession to Holy Family Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.Her family will receive relatives and friends today, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road.Memorial donations in Yvonne's memory may be made to the "Friends of the Enfield Senior Center," 299 Elm Street, Enfield, CT 06082.Before Yvonne's passing, she felt it was important to thank people for sharing in her journey in a special way: To Father Francis Kerwan and his ministries that enhanced her spiritual life; the staff at the Parkway Pavilion rehabilitation wing who added a wonderful layer of extended family in her recovery and with much gratitude; and the seniors at the senior center whom she loved to work with.
